Four CBS News employees out re: Rathergate

CBS News reports, and RatherBiased has the breakdown.

Powerline, the blog that started it all, comments on what the official “final report” on this missed.

Knowing that the blogosphere is now looked upon as the watchdogs of the media gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling :)

  1. What confuses me about the Rathergate thing.. I mean I really find it unbelievable is that the investigative panel led by former Attorney General Richard Thornburgh and former Associated Press President Louis Boccardi said it was not able to determine conclusively that the documents were forgeries.

I mean… like that is what the whole thing was about. The panel also said that despite accusations of political bias against CBS, it could not “conclude that a political agenda at ’60 Minutes Wednesday’ drove either the timing of the airing of the segment or its content.”

Killian’s former wife, son and secretary all questioned the validity of the memos, though his secretary said they did reflect his views at the time about Bush.

So, the content was correct, but the memos were forgeries.. or not.. I guess.

    Ghost,
You are forgetting that while the secretary (an unabashed Bush hater) said the content was accurate, the son and wife said it was not.
The content and the validity of the documents have always been in question, though there is more than enough evidence to prove they were forgeries, and none to prove they were not.

  3. Hi SCSIWuzzy – welcome to ST :) Isn’t it so odd to read “well it’s true even though the documents that were supposed to prove it were fake”?
