Right wing bloggers favorite righties

Posted by: ST on August 11, 2005 at 6:08 pm

John Hawkins has taken a poll of right wing bloggers to find out who their favorite people on the right were.  52 bloggers responded.

The results are posted  here.  The top five (number of votes listed in parentheses):

1) Michelle Malkin (24)
2) George W. Bush (23)
3) Condoleeza Rice (20)
3) Mark Steyn (20)
5) Thomas Sowell(18)

Who are some of your favorite righties – and why?

Oooh! Oooh! Who did you vote for?!? You only voted for Michelle because she has tits, right?

Anyway, interesting list, and to be honest, a bit of a surprise. When was this poll taken? If it was recent, I’d say that Michelle Malkin got a bit of a sympathy vote there, although I do think she’s spectacular (Wish she’d have comments, though. I know she’s discussed that, and I understand what she’s saying, but still, I can dream). Hugh Hewitt. Around the election, I adored him. Bought his book (If They Can’t Cheat…) and passed it around to anyone. But lately…I don’t know. I got a little tired of hearing about Blog, and I am really tired of what I’m noticing as a holier-than-thou attitude. Maybe I needed that last October-November, but now, not so much. Love Jonah Goldberg…Love Brit Hume. But my number one guy isn’t on the list…Tony Snow! Guy’s my idol. I was so depressed when he stopped doing his column some years ago, and I got even MORE depressed when he stopped doing Fox News Sunday. THEN, the station that carried his radio program went to Air America (the ultimate insult!) and he still hasn’t found a weekday home in AZ!

I also get a bit of a charge from Jerry Doyle when I’m able to listen to him, but 8-11 isn’t exactly my favorite time to listen to the radio…!

  2. Hi AT: I like Tony Snow too! Did you see his new column posted at Townhall (I linked up to it last week – he spanked Bill Frist on the stem cell issue). I don’t know if the comeback on column writing is temporary or what, but that one was a good read.

Re: Michelle, she’s been kicking bootie on a myriad of issues lately – like Air Enron and Cindy Sheehan so she deserves major props for that. Oh, and I’m glad you didn’t get totally tired of hearing about blogs because I’m glad you’re here and posting comments :)

See, this list is yet another example of the hate-filled racist sexism of those on the right! If you discount the women and minorities (because they’re obviously affirmative action candidates) you end up with two white men! Out of five “most admired”…

Check Michelle’s blog for some recent examples of caring, thoughtful e-mail she’s received from lefties respectfully debating her positions. I often wish that I were smart and sensitive enough to be a liberal, but my stupid little brain just cannot hold so many contradictory positions at once. Plus, I don’t hate people who disagree with me and wish to seem them die.

  4. Steve – saw those emails that were sent to Michelle that she posted. Ick … looks like in at least one instance, the appropriate action was taken against the emailer.

  5. I’ve long enjoyed Michelle Malkin’s work and was first exposed to her columns in a newspaper format sans photograph …

  6. Hi Robin – welcome to the ST blog … photograph or not, Michelle rocks, right? :)

I’d have to say – apart from some of the conservative commentators already mentioned, like Malkin and Sowell whose work I respect a great deal – that my favourite conservative bloggers would be Victor Davis Hanson, Orson Scott Card, Wretchard, Cassandra (Villainous Company), Austin Bay, and Bill Whittle. All think clearly and write eloquently, producing ideas that make me think.

That’s what it’s all about. In addition to having a few favorite bloggers and conservative writers, I also like reading moderate to left leaning sites like New Republic. I don’t always agree with their opinions, but they make me think too.
