Let me establish my nerd credentials by saying that Alan Moore went completely ape@#^$ with Promethea, but back before he was casting spells and just tripping acid, V was an interesting ride. I gotta say, Hugo Weaving murmuring “Remember, Remember the Fifth of November” had me kinda giddy. I rather enjoyed reading one review of the trailer that came out of the San Diego Comicon (which, if it’s anything like they showed on Entourage, I gotta get over there one day…!) and the guy dissed the trailer because he said it was stupid the main character wears a clown mask. Whoa. Get some history there, guy. (That’s a pun there, son.)

Anyway, long story short, Hollywood blows.

But I’ll go see V for Vendetta.

Britain lost WWII in “V”? I was under the impression (and I’m pulling this from memory) the fascist leader, Susan, had overthrown the Crown with the help of the Fate computer.

Quick way to figure that out, I suppose. I now have an excellent reason to re-read the book.

Actually it IS a fascist state. Its a britain where the Nazi’s beat them in WWII, and the hero doesn’t like that. How this sympathizes with the other side, I don’t know.

Thank you, CavalierX. I’ve seen the trailer, and it looks as if it will be very true to the original book so I hope some of us will know what the real story is. Of course, once it’s released, no one can control how others will interpret it. I admit I’m really looking forward to seeing it this November.

What’s really funny — if “funny” is the word — is that “V for Vendetta” was created by Alan Moore to portray his fear that the Conservatives would lose power in the early 80’s, and that the British Labour Party would ally with the Soviet Union. That was the totalitarian state his hero fought in “V.” Of course, the Conservatives did win, Margaret Thatcher was a rock-solid ally to President Reagan, and together they brought the Soviet Union down. Yet the Hollywood elite (read: Socialist scum) will undoubtedly turn it into a Bush/Blair-bashing festival, like almost every other movie that’s come out in the last few years.
