Rick: plenty of people had something to say over the Randi Rhodes show “joke” “skit” or whatever it was that implied assassinating the President. The media didn’t seem to take much notice though (surprise!)

I concur with Robertson. I don't even think it's a hard call. What restrains most Americans from agreeing with him is the notion that he's entitled to extra consideration either out of "due process" or because he's a head of state, however illegitimate. Neither contention holds water under close examination.

- Actually the fact is that in every instance I can think of, in the case of every country that has enjoyed world leadership and some sort of dominating position, its exactly what they would do. History shows that those that hold power don’t tend to **** around, but use it in the nost effective, and most often brutal, fashion. Its only because of unprecidented beneficent and charitable policies that America uses when dealing with their advisaries, that this becomes a PC issue. Dumb to say publicly. check. Impolitic. Check. Closer to the truth than fumbling, impident diplomacy, check. the Liberals will be frothing at the mouth over this, posing great outrage, when in fact its the perfect opportunity to dissemble once again. It doesn’t matter that for the most part we don’t do the kinds of things Robertson suggests. If you’re an America hater its enough that any one public figure says something stupid. Jeff Goldstein thinks the MSM will try to use Pat’s comments to paint the religious right/social conservatives with broad brushes. I think he’s right.

Oh, don’t you know it! I’m comparing this situation to the time that Eason Jordan accused our soldiers in Iraq of deliberately targeting journalists. The media completely ignored it until it couldn’t be ignored anymore. But let a high-profile televangelist make a stupid comment, and it’s front-page news for days.

I wish Pat would stop saying stupid stuff. But I wish also that the media would stop hanging on his pronouncements like they’re somehow more important than, say, the progress that’s being made in Iraq, or the improving state of the economy. Now there’s some news I haven’t heard about from the MSM.
