Heh:
Police cut short a speech by anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan and arrested a rally organizer, saying he hadn’t obtained a permit for use of a loudspeaker.
Sheehan, the grieving mother whose 26-day vigil near President Bush’s Texas ranch sparked anti-war protests around the country, had nearly finished her speech Monday when police intervened.
Supporters ushered her away from the rally at Manhattan’s Union Square park as onlookers yelled at police and chanted “Let her speak!”
Rally organizer Paul Zulkowitz was charged with unauthorized use of a sound device and disorderly conduct. He was given a court summons and released, said Detective Kevin Czartoryski.
I’m sure we’ll hear cries of “her free speech rights were violated!” at any moment.
On a related note, her “tour” ends this Saturday with an anti-war march in DC. Anyone planning on attending the counter-protest?

Maybe. Do you know who’s organizing it?
Hey Kevin, here are the details I found, but I didn’t see a website for meetup details, etc. I’m wondering if the FReepers might have anything lined up?
Edit to add: Michelle Malkin has more info.
Actually, the NYPD claims that the shut the protest down after Sheehan spoke, not before. via the NY Sun and NY Daily News. Oh, and those friendly protestors called the NYPD fascists, communists, and pigs when the NYPD went to arrest the organizer for failing to have the proper permits for the demonstration.
Doubt that you’ll see that mentioned elsewhere. It was conveniently left out of the AP article, and the NYT coverage as well.
= Most mercifully, the 28 minutes of fame for Cindy “Marx is my hero” Sheehan, is finally winding down, as attested too by the words of several Dem/Liberal talking heads since her latest public rant. She even attacked Clinton for her hawkish stance on the war, saying that “[if] the Senator from NY doesn’t reverse her positions on the war and het behind the drive for peace she will find herself out of a job”.
While once the media darling for the Dems, their typical position now is to distance themselves from her. They all still see her as a sympethetic mother but they tended to comment, in as indirect way as possible, that her “extremist rhetoric has gone way past ligitamate war protesting and that her ‘handlers’ are giving her very poor advice…”. so losing her Dem support should put an end to this media circus.
- If anyone needed more proof of the mean spirited, viciously self serving partisanship of the lefts “ends justify the means” mentality , their shamless use of this emotionally unstable and overwrought woman should do the job….
- Bang Man
There’s no hell big enough or agonizing enough for the scum sucking filth that gently ushered Cindy Sheehan to the precipice of insanity and solicitously shoved her over. While the worst thing that can happen to a mother is to lose a child, the best thing that ever happened to Cindy Sheehan, war protestor was to lose her son.
And damn her cynical manipulative handlers for destroying the grieving mother and giving us this shrieking nutcase. She’s just another victim of leftist ideology which holds that no life is important against The Cause.
Lawhawk: Heard about the fascists comments … not surprising we’re not hearing much about it in the big media, though
Bang and Steve: Good points all. I’d say Ms. Sheehan’s fifteen minutes of fame are about up, but her ‘last stand’ will be this weekend in DC. I hope the counter protest crowd is huge.

They send me emails re all their activities, and you canget on their email list. I met their president, Bill Green, a couple of weeks ago in the offices of the National Clergy Council, and he’s a really together guy. I’m back in DC after 3 days in N.Y., and I’ll be here through the 24th, and intend to participate in the first couple of days’ activities. Unfortunately, inescapable business has me back in N.Y. after that.
Cindy Sheehan’s “admiring fans” in New York constitute an extreme minority of airheaded liberal college kids and a few wingnuts who belong in Berleley or S.F.
Even the majority of Democrats in N.Y. have little or no use for her, and the cops definitely don’t. Remember, N.Y. was the primary victim of 9/11, and the last thing New Yorkers want is Cindy shitting on their town.
I spoke with a lot of people there, including Democrats I’ve known for years, and not one had anything good to say about the liberals’ “Ditch Goddess.”
Thanks for the info, Seth!
Seth, I believe the preferred appellation is “Madonna of the Ditch.”
