I haven’t seen this much hyperventilating in the conservative blogosphere about an issue in a long time. I think it’s good that conservatives are voicing their differences about it - it obviously shows that we’re not just obedient little slaves to the President (WE knew that already, of course) and there are some great arguments for and against the nomination - but some of it is just so over the top you’d think the President had either just nominated Bill Clinton for USSC Justice or the mother of all conservatives. Time to take a deep breath.
One thing I really don’t like about this is that I really don’t have a position on it. I’m not on the totally supportive side and I’m not on the totally against side - and I’m not in the middle, either. I’m just sort of ‘floating.’ I’m usually more decisive so this is an alien position to me
I hate that.

I know what you mean.
I do not know enough about Miers to make a decision.
I want to trust the President and his choice. From what we know of her backgroud she “seems” to be a decent pick.
BUT….
I am more worried that she was on a lsit from the Democrats for one, and two, her nomination by the President makes Schumer and Ried HAPPY!
I think out of everything else, it is more the fact that this pick makes the democrats happy that worries me.

This isn’t all that complicated, to me. The president told us his nominees would be in the mold of Scalia and Thomas, but I’ve seen no evidence that Miers meets that standard — other than being told, “Trust me” by the president abd vice president.
Additionally, this nominee further delays settling the filibuster issue, which really needs to be settled one way or the other.

“I think it’s good that conservatives are voicing their differences about it - it obviously shows that we’re not just obedient little slaves to the President”
This is a great point and probably a little too nuanced for the left to figure out.

Well I have also been reading that the President had someone else picked, but the Republicans didn’t feel like a fight.
Could this be the Presidents way of saying FINE! You don’t want a fight I will just nominate someone off of the Democrats list?
I have been searching and unfortunately I cannot find the link to the story, so I am saying this with no positive link to prove what I read. My Apologies.
