A more sinister explanation is possible. The MSM knows that first impressions often stick (e.g. the rampant violence reported about at the dome and convention center). So, they give the explanation that they think will make the president look bad, if one can be manufactured, knowing that later corrections will be overlooked.

To be fair, it kinda is Bush’s fault. As everyone knows, soil failure is often caused by global warming. As we also know, global warming started on January 20, 2000, and is caused by GWB’s signature not appearing on the Kyoto protocol.

Your and captain Ed’s analyses are right on target.

I can remember being home sick on the day President Reagan was shot and stories were being spouted by Talking Heads saying one minute that James Brady was dead… No, waitaminute, President Reagan was dead.

It didn’t matter to the media then and doesn’t what the outcome of a story may be. Pile on anything and everything, no matter how ludicrous or hurtful. As long as you are First.

Which is one of the major reasons I gave up on the Alphabet Networks ages ago.
