Well Robert not quite right about Eisenhower. On Paper Money “In God We Trust” appeared, but it was already on coinage. I am looking at a 1943 steel penny that I keep on my keyboard. It clearly says “In God We Trust” on it. So does my 1951 Wheat back penny. I do seem to remember Democrats being Presidents at these times. Finally something I can agree with Dem Presidents about. – Lorica

He’s right, but so what? Let’s say he gets his way somehow(won’t happen). What then? We will be exactly where we are now. Nothing will change. It’s pretty sad that Eisenhower felt the need to put it on the money to begin with. That’s right, it wasn’t there until Eisenhower added it. Where were the Michael Newdows of the world then, when it could have made a difference.

Newdow is an attention whore, a modern day Don Quixote tilting at windmills that no one else cares about. Unfortunately, this DQ manages to make life miserable for everyone and waste tons of money and time in the process.

It’s often been said that the Constitution guarantees you freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. In other words, don’t expect to be forced to worship, but also don’t mistake that for a declaration that you will never be exposed to a religious statement or idea. This country was founded on judeo-christian principles, get over it.

I’m an atheist Libertarian, and I couldn’t care less about the use of crosses on seals, “In God We Trust” on money, etc. People who can’t get over these things are obsessing on trivia. With all the really serious problems in the US today, to focus on things like this is assinine in the extreme. I firmly believe he gets off on all the attention, and unfortunately there are ample idiots out there who will encourage and support him.

Newdow is a damned genius. Who else could single-handedly draw attention away from more important matters and unify the far right on a minor issue. Nonetheless, he’s right of course, and it’ll go to the Supreme Court… eventually. And they’ll decide…eventually, that he’s right, but they can’t afford to make the change because it would bankrupt the Treasury.

Newdow is a putz. The funny thing about the Pledge ruling is the SCOTUS is going to get out of a decision again. Because the court used the 9th’s decison as a reason to ban the pledge, the SC will say “No, we tossed the 9th’s decision, make an actual decision”.

Remember the SCOTUS already said Newdow didn’t have cause to bring the first case, and the 9th did nothing with it.

I wonder what it’s like to have the time an money to do nothing but file lawsuits.

As an atheist libertarian I agree with him at least in spirit, but what he is trying to do will probably cause more problems it is worth.

It is funny – to me at least – that the only people who pick up on this story are the right-wing blogs and media. It is really a non-issue, dead in the water. At least you are giving him the press that he wants.
