People like you, Steve, are those who are completely out of touch with reality. It’s nice to say “war is bad!” and think that it’s going to solve all the worlds problems, but whether or not you admit/see it war is responsible for stopping Imperial Japan, war is responsible for stopping Nazi Germany, war is responsible for stopping fascists in Italy, war is responsible for stopping North Korea from invading South Korea, get the idea?

I am curious though, if you are so “anti-war”, would you oppose the Revolutionary war???? Were there other options that those of you “enlightened” people could have used? Surely you “sons of light” are not a new phenomenon, so why didn’t they come to a peaceful solution with the British???

The “left” doesn’t really want to “do” anything. Pontificating, whining, and protesting, now that’s the ticket. Makes you feel all morally superior and good inside, and doesn’t really require any nasty action or accomplishment.

You folks are constantly, labeling the left as defeatists and loser liberals. So it seems odd that the “pot would call the kettle black”. From where I stand we are all Americans trying to maintain our freedom and safety. The Left believes that that requires a peaceful approach and not the constant projection of “certain death thru superior firepower”. I agree with Steve to the extent that I do think that this administration and many of its supporters are too quick to accept going to war, use of torture, bypassing civil liberties, etc. But I cringe at the use of the term “violent fascist” as much as at terms like “America-hating traitor” and “Liar”.

The activity disturbs me, but understand that it’s not the surveillance, but the fact that GWB didn’t follow the law and go through the secret court. Why bypass the process? It’s quick, and presumably he would have gotten his way unless the surveillance was clearly unrelated to national security. Is there something wrong with the process that we’re not aware of, or was the Admin. just being sloppy?

The real danger here is if the surveillance had crossed into something more politically or idealogiclly related. There’s no indication of that at this time, but if the precident is allowed to be established unchallenged, that kind of “political” use sometime in the future becomes a greater possiblity.
