Actually, I think someone needs to pull Senators Robert Byrd and Jay Rockefeller in and ask them what their knowledge of the issues associated with the mine were. It's their state and they should be on top of what is going on there.

For the record: Jack Spadaro, former director of the National Mine Health and Safety Academy, officially politicised the Sago mine tragedy at 9:18 pm tonight on Hannity & Colmes. When asked why the mine was still open despite the 208 safety violations, his answer was, "Due to the policies of the Bush administration towards mine owners."

Un-fricking-believable.

Mining has always been considered very dangerous work. Over time it has become much safer than in the past. Mine workers do not even make the top ten most dangerous job list.

Turning another disaster into a blame-game political issue makes me sick. What else do you expect from loopy lefties?

In 2002 MSN/moneynework listed the top ten most dangerous jobs in terms of deaths per 100,000.

Timber cutters	117.8
Fishers	71.1
Pilots and navigators	69.8
Structural metal workers	58.2
Drivers-sales workers	37.9
Roofers	37
Electrical power installers	32.5
Farm occupations	28
Construction laborers	27.7
Truck drivers	25

God bless the souls of the dead mine workers and their families in a time of tragedy.

The mining industry is not covered by OSHA, but by MSHA, the Mining Health and Safety Administration. OSHA is a bit of a joke, but MSHA is just flat out tough. The company which had the accident was inspected by MSHA just a couple of months ago, and had a list of 46 violations. Those would have had to have been addressed, and fairly quickly, or MSHA would have shut them down; MSHA doesn't play.

As usual, the liberal bloggers were writing about things of which they had no freaking experience or education.

Bush also causes millions of deaths every year by not forcing auto manufacturers to make cars that cannot have accidents! It's probably related to Halliburton in some way.

In reading the stories linked to and listening to Hannity's guest yesterday, if the laws are followed, underground mining is safe. The company that RECENTLY bought this mine was very saftey conscious, more so than LTV Corp.

But the main point is that to the left every tragedy is Bush's fault. No real thinking, just let the accusations fly.

-I have heard it reported that the Mine companies, State politics, and rather weak Unions mean the families of this tradgedy will get very little compensation. I am hoping Bush steps up to the plate after the dust settles, and makes sure these families are taken care of the way they should be.

- If anything good can come out of such a terrible loss from this mess, maybe its a widespread reform of the lopsided laws so people who put their lives on the line everyday for the rest of us, and their families, are properly protected.
