Panthers at Seattle

No need to go into detail about how huge this game is! I’ve been out today doing some shopping and a few other things and I think everyone in this city is wearing something with the Panthers logo on it. I opened up the paper this morning and there was an ad from a local fast food chain (Bojangles – cajun chicken is their claim to fame) that Jake Delhomme does ads for which was pretty humorous. It was of him during the Atlanta game where he ripped his pants and had to go back to the locker room to change – the ad read something like “Jake, we told you to show us the chicken, not the biscuit.” They had a full page picture of him from the back with that rip (of course, the rip was made to look obscure so nothing could be seen ;) LOL.

The paper had a section today devoted to the Panthers and one of the articles was on Steve Smith. Check it out here. The guy sounds like a class act all the way.

Obviously, I hope the cats win, but if they don’t, hats off to a good season. They really hit their stride the last several games and have looked really strong. They looked awesome against the Bears – may their road game win streak continue today.

GO CATS!

Update I 6:43 PM: It’s just prior to kickoff. Could I possibly be more nervous? Dang – that crowd is LOUD!

Update II 6:47 PM: Cool – Peppers is playing.

Update III 7:26 PM: We look terrible.

Update IV 8:32 PM: This game is hard to watch.

Update V: One more TD for Carolina. Finally. At least it won’t look like a total blowout.

Update VI 9:50 PM: 2 minute warning coming up. Ah well. It was a good run, but we were clearly outdone on everything today. So it’ll be the Steelers vs. the Seahawks. Should be a great game.

    4th Quarter and Carolina has come back. It’s 24 – 17 Pittsburgh. 7:52 left.

Well, that was dumb as all get-out! DENVER has come back against Pittsburgh. Really! I gotta get my head fixed soon!

  3. LOL benning … I was wondering what happened to the rest of my champagne last night – looks like you snuck in and drank what I didn’t ;)

That third interception, I was yelping, “Happy Feet! Happy Feet!” And there it went. You knew he was in trouble!

Gad, they don’t look very good tonight.

Delhomme just passed the ball way behind his receiver. Gad!

  8. They look awful. Seattle has shut the Cats down.:((

  9. - My condolences Sistah…. as a Charger fan, believe me I feel your pain. Not that it will help really but thats one thing about the NFL. As they say, on any given Sunday, no matter how much prep and sweat and hope by fans and team, it just isn’t there for reasons known only to the big fella. Good news is, with a little luck, you get to do it all over again next year…

At least your hockey team is doing well (the ‘Canes are tied for first overall in the NHL). Too bad they got spanked Saturday night by one of the worst teams in the NHL. The ‘Canes play the Caps four or five more times this season. I realize you’re not a hockey fan, but you should try to go to one of those games. Some bad blood was created the other night, and the upcoming games should be some tough ones.

Sorry your folks lost. It was just the Osprey’s day.

You’re always welcome to cheer for the Steelers!

Ah, jeez… I went to get a cup of tea on my morning break, and the game was on in the mess (I’m overseas so when its evening there on the East Coast it’s, uh… Tuesday or Orange or something where I am). Second quarter, 17-0 Seattle. And although I live in the vicinity of Seattle, my first thought was “Oh, this is bad news for ST!”

Since I am not a fan of Paul Allen currently (I depise billionaires that hoodwink or strongarm taxpayers into paying for their hobbies) I never felt I had a dog in this fight. And besides, why should I root for the Seahawks? Is there something essentially Great Northwest about this organization of millionaire mercenaries? Boeing, Microsoft, Starbucks, Costco, those guys I’ll root for. Not only are they my home team, but the anti globos hate them so it’s a twofer.

So I am sorry for your loss. I shall spit on the Seahawks the very next opportunity. With luck I’ll be able to spit on them from the Space Needle.

  20. Steve S.: LOL – thanks! :)

Rob: I’ve become a fan of “the Bus” the last few weeks so methinks I’ll be rooting for the Steelers.

LC: What happened to create the bad blood? I do enjoy hockey, but not as much as I used to – and even then it was more minor league than major league that I enjoyed. I do need to go to a ‘canes game, if for no other reason than to say I’ve been.

Lessee. Witter flipping Brind’Amour, Brind’Amour’s toe-on-toe (almost knee-on-knee) hit on Alexander the Great, some yelling at both coaches by opposing players…and some of the worst officiating I’ve ever seen. Bad officiating frustrates the players tremendously and they take it out on each other since they can’t knock the ref upside the head, no matter how much he deserves it.

Therefore: (a poke here + a jab there + the most popular players on each team getting hit) * bad officiating = bad blood. It’s hockey algebra.

As much as I love the Caps, I have to give the ‘Canes credit: They’re playing some incredible hockey right now. They’re a team that, like the Redskins, is significanlty more than the sum of its parts.
