——————-

Following in the footsteps of Patterico, who had a great idea at his blog last month by asking his readers and commenters to post information about themselves (like where they are from, what they do, their hobbies, favorite sports teams, etc etc) I’m asking the same of the readers and commenters here.

So tell me a bit more about you.   Not asking for deep personal info, just the general stuff.  This will be a great way not only for me to get to know you, but your fellow readers and commenters to, as well.  You already know who I am, so now it’s your turn.  C’mon now, don’t be shy! emoticon

    Guess I’ll go first.

I live in Dubuque, Iowa (and wish I don’t). I am a former co-chair of the county Republican party.

I am a systems programmer. (Mainly Sperry, now Unisys) I’ve both worked for the vendor and independent software houses. I’ve installed software I worked on in such diverse places as the Pentagon, Disneyworld, Union Bank of Switzerland, and even the city of Norwalk, CT.

My main hobby is my Ford Thunderbird. Long cruise or bracket racing anyone?

Oh, yes, I was born and raised in Green Bay. I bleed Green and Gold, even worked at Lambeau Field growing up.

  2. I’m first! Woo-hoo! I’m female and 43, single, redheaded, Irish-American and a Roman Catholic, non-cafeterial division :)

I’m a native Angelena and a lifelong lonesome conservative in L.A. — I happily voted for Ronald Reagan in my first election, at age 18 — and have moved more right on most things over the years, with the occasional curve to the left.

I’m single, and I have a half a duplex bungalow to live in and a large, beautiful and ill-tempered cat to live with me. I read a lot, spend too much time online, and knit when Enid (the cat) will let me.

By profession, I’m a writer, copy editor and occasional speaker on consumer entertainment technology. It’s kind of fun.

Hi. I am a fellow southern – a geechee girl born and raised in Charleston, SC. I am married and have a 4 year old daugther. I work as a Systems Support Technician (computer geek) at local college and in my spare time I try to tame the grass and azaleas in my yard.

  4. PCD says:

    Bridley,

You’ll have to make some trips to Orange County for your sanity, but the cats down there are just as ill mannered. I used to have one that fought roof top to roof top with the neighbor’s cat. Even the neighborhood dogs would sit quietly and enjoy the free entertainment.

  5. gary says:

Well I am next. Don’t post much but read daily. Sothern born and bred. Love the South. Travel a lot with my job, and I will take the Carolinas anyday. Live out of Charlotte. SCMOMMY, love Charleston. Go there often. Three kids, horses, snakes, dog, lizards. Like the outdoors, trout fishing mostly. Love the Packers. Lost finger nails at the game Monday night.

  6. Jack Deth says:

    Good morning, all:

I’m a native Marylander. Single. Midwife to creatures large and small with iron wings. Active and Reserve Air Force since 1972.

Lifelong Republican, NRA Member, Film Buff and Cat Person. Enjoy unwinding on line, where I’ve recently discovered I have a talent for poetry and Haikus.

    Jack.

  7. I’m a 51-year-old grandmother of five currently living in southern Illinois (right across the big river from St. Louis, MO) but I’m a native of Colorado and adopted Arizonan. I miss the West but try not to whine about it.

My bread-and-butter trade since B.C. (before computers) has been medical transcription. Three cheers for the age of technology; I can now do it at home in my jammies. For exercise and a bit of extra cash I also deliver newspapers (on foot, porch-to-porch, definitely NOT in my jammies). I’m also a freelance writer. It does not buy the groceries, however.

  8. Baklava says:

I’m 35, divorced, with 2 wonderful daughters in the Sacramento, CA area.

I’ve worked with computers for 17 years and have owned my own computer consulting company now for 2.5 years.

I was liberal but converted to conservative/libertarian in 1991 after listening to Rush and visiting the library 3 times a week for a year. Since then I’ve moderated and now consider myself a centrist/conservative (Bush is to the left of me though – leftists don’t seem to understand that Bush is to the left of center).

When I have my daughters I’m doing everything with them like going to the lake and children’s plays and festivals. When I don’t I do home improvement and indulge my appetite for politics.

    Haven’t posted before, but have
been reading your blog for a
couple of months and enjoy it.

  10. LCVRWC says:

I work in Washington and live in Maryland. I was born in South Carolina, I’m married, no kids; I have two dogs instead. I like having dogs instead of kids: I figure they’re less likely to wreck my car when they get their driver’s license.

For fun I go fishing and trail biking. I also read lots of science fiction.

I’ve been registered as an Independent all my life. My leanings were actually rather liberal, until 9/11 and the media/moonbat reaction afterward opened my eyes.

  11. LCVRWC says:

And I forgot to mention I root for the Washington teams–Capitals, Nationals, and the football team. You see, I’m 1/4 Cherokee & 1/4 Powhaton, and therefore I find the football team’s nickname rather offensive.

  12. Bruce says:

I am 44 and am a chemist. I live in Virginia (Shenandoah Valley) but commute to NY to work as a consultant. Am married with 1 ten year old.

  13. Steve Skubinna says:

49, divorced, BA in History from UCSD, former enlisted Army and commissioned Navy, current merchant seaman employed by the Navy aboard fleet support ships (an ammo ship at present). Hobbies are cycling (road and mountain), sailing, scuba, history, and marksmanship.

Uh… locksmith, armorer, and computer/LAN tech as well. Two dogs, which my totally excellent parents take care of while I am overseas.

  14. Steve Skubinna says:

Oh, right, born in Taiwan, grew up all over (Navy family), live in Western Washington.

  15. PCD says:

Steve, you sound like my brother if you substitute horses for the bikes. His daugher is ex-Navy, was a gunner’s mate on the USS Pearl Harbor.

  16. Evon says:

I grew up on a farm in Minnesota. I am the oldest of eight children, attended a the same one-room schoolhouse my father attended 33 years before me [41 students, grades 1-8], nearly died from pneumonia several times after which my family went to Arizona every winter, committed my life to Christ at age 12, switched from Democrat to Republican in college at the urging of a Black fellow student, majored in chemistry, have had open-heart surgery twice to correct multiple birth defects, worked formulating supplemental nutritional food products, was fired after filing a sex-discrimination-in-pay complaint against my employer, had one interviewer tell me that he would not hire me, a woman, even if I had my uterus cut out and he could hand it to the vice-president of his company in a bottle, made a Federal case out of this–literally, settled out of court, became active in feminist groups but dropped out because of their preoccupation with abortion. Now enjoy living and working in Colorado where I watch animals [squirrels, foxes, raccoons and a coyote] and birds [flickers, finches, song sparrows, grackles, starlings, downy woodpeckers, nuthatches, blue jays, juncos, pigeons, mourning doves, robins, hawks, crows, magpies, chickadees] in the backyard. Last year we had no crows or magpies because of the west Nile virus. This summer the crows were back and magpies have just started to return. Favorite movies: The Passion of the Christ, Pharlap and Hoosiers. Main hobby: doing family history research. All my ancestors came from Germany. Discovered blogs after Rathergate last year.

  17. Gary Gross says:

I hit Powerline, Patterico, Sane Nation (y’all ought to try that one), The American Thinker, and our own dear host’s website almost every day, and I’ve never been able to get past Adorable Little Rodent in the TTLB Ecosystem!

Oh, and even though I’m livin’ among the Yankees nowadays, I grew up in the South. And the South shall rise again!

I am a 32 year old single gal, born and raised in New York. I live 20 minutes from NYC and work for a major corporation. I enjoy running and working out in my spare time.

A friend of mine opened my eyes to politics about 5 years ago. I have always leaned toward the right but just needed a little hip-check to register as a Republican. I am addicted to this website simply because it makes sense and covers a lot of ground.

    Thanks for asking about me.

3 great kids, again all Texans. I have lived all over the world and the U.S., having been an airforce brat and the gypsy lifestyle being in my blood.
Still, there’s no place like home!

I am ashamed to say that in my younger years I thought I was a democrat.
When I graduated from college and actually figured out what they were saying under the rhetoric, I changed my way of thinking.

I work in computers and property management.

    I subscribe to National Review

  29. Thanks for the participation in this post so far. It’s been a treat to get to know more about the people who read and comment at the ST blog. Appreciate everyone sharing a piece of their lives with me and others here. It’s gettin’ kinda comfy/cozy here … Hors d’oeuvres and drinks, anyone?

  30. Hey Everyone,

My name is Barry and I’m a 44 year old, soon to be divorced, Michigan resident. I’ve spent time in Houston, TX and Phoenix, AZ from 1993 to 2004. I’m a former “super-liberal” (speaking the way Michael Moore does now – back in 1982), who converted to conservatism during Reagan’s first term and happily voted for him in 1984.

Since 2004, Writing and reading blogs has become a very important part of my geeky political life. My next project will be podcasting and the development of a conservative podcasting network. I consider blogging my “profession” while my regular job pays the bills and supports my blogging.

My secret shame is watching reality TV game shows. I love HBO and the new Battlestar Galactica.

I’m a Jazz fan who also likes classical music, Classic Rock, Alternative Rock, and TV/Movie Soundtracks.

I love both dogs and cats and currently own one cat. His name is Frank.

  31. Brass says:

I’m a 36 year old, single, snowboard punk who lives in Vail, CO. I’m what they mean when they say “Southpark Republican”. I read any sci-fi I can get my hands on, but will read anything else that gets in my way. I believe that the Second Amendment protects all the others.

  32. Jay says:

I’m a California native and lived here all my life other than the 10 years I served in the US army.

I’m a little to the right of Rush Limbaugh, have no use for Bill O’Reilley, and have not been to a movie theater in about 10 years.

I’ve held many positions that seemed cool when seen from the outside, but settled on metal working because I like having something I could hold in my hand and say, ” I made that!”

My hobby — other than reading political blogs — is singing A Cappella music, primarily barbershop, but some doo-wop, too.

  35. Sean says:

I served in the Marines for 4 years in which time I was deployed all over the world, yes I went there too. I work for the local Police Dept now and have my first child (a little girl) on the way.

  38. sanity says:

Hmmmm since ST bumped this up and I had no clue she had it, I guess I shall add a bit of myself…..

    How to start…..

I am 35 and work as a Jack-of-all-trades where I work, essentially a Help Desk 2nd Level Support for a Satellite company, I also install customer routers and equipment, run cables, troubleshoot for technicians in the field, in charge of all Inventory and Maintenance for equipment and Shipping and Receiving.

    So as I said, Jack-of-all-trades.

I am married, 2nd time around, and have 2 kids (2yr boy and 3yr girl).

I support all of us, and our children have a parent with them at all times. Firmly believe in raising my own kids. It’s not easy by far, but worth it.

I spent 2 years in Active US ARMY, 1st year in Korea 9 miles from the DMZ, and 2 weeks in Panama for Jungle Training. After getting out spent the next 6 years in the National Guard.

I have been interested in politics for some time and normally post information to a variety of forums i have been on to allow people to learn more of what is around them than what is just in thier neighborhoods or city/town.

As Blogs began to take more and more, I became interested and made my own meager blog, and for a long time used it as a jump pad to my favorite readings spots. As time went, I decided to post more and more, and am trying to keep a regular schedule of posts, but I find in hte end, I have become very attached ot ST’s Blog.

I have a normal read of:
    Michelle Malkvin
    LFG
    Captain’s Quarters
    Blogs for Bush
Expose the Left (Formerly The Political Teen)

ST is in that main listing of regular reads, but I did not add her in that list, because it bears special mention that I have moved her blog to the front, and has become my first read of the day and I check regularly (as some have begun to see).

I am not sure exactly why, but have felt I have found more of a home at her blog. I feel comfortable here.

    Political leanings on myself?
    Good question.

I have not really thought of myself as any party, but voting for the best person to get the job done, whether it be a Republican, Democrat or an Independent. So not sure what that exactly makes me……sane? :-?

I do not blindly follow, but I am an excellent researcher and will scour the net looking for evidence to back up or debunk things. If I had to pick, I suppose I would be to the right of center.

    * I believe in protecting our borders and that we are watching to much on the Canadain border and not enough on the Mexican border.

    * I believe that if you want to come to the US you should do it legally. Those who are found to be here illegally should be put through the system (medical and background checks) or put back across the border.

    * I believe the media has so proven where they stand and how biased they are.

    * I beleive that blogs are a new wave of media that will bring clarity on both sides, Left and Right, allowing for information to be out there for us to read that the MSM don’t give us as news. They only give what THEY wish to report. With blogs we have a whole new frontier media available to allow us to get information from both sides.

    * I think that while President Bush is not perfect and has definately messed up from time to time, I do feel the blame and the hate that people exhibit shows a violence on the left and some on the right that say they wish peace but wish death on the president.

    * I miss the time when America was Patriotic. When the US Flag was a symbol of Freedom and was given respect.

    * I feel people seem to lose repect for themselves and for each other as time progresses.

    * I feel that as time progresses that we as Americans are losing our Moral compass. We have become too PC polluting common sense. We have become a society of fear, fear of saying the wrong thing, looking the wrong way.

    * And just when I thought i have seen everything while driving in rush hour trafic in Detroit, MI to work….I pass a lady in a car, driving with her knees, with a bowl of cereal in one hand and pouring wilk with the other……

  39. Baklava says:

Good God Sanity, Did she ask for an autobiography? ;)

Sanity said, “Pooring ‘wilk’ with the other” I hate when that happens…

Sanity wrote, “I am not sure exactly why, but have felt I have found more of a home at her blog. I feel comfortable here.

Same here my friend. Same here. I have dinner for you when you get home… oooh. I just brokemyback. :d Anyways. Suffice to say I’m addicted. I’ll work for hours on something and then go through withdrawals and have to see what’s been goin’ on. It’s like a community that I feel like I belong to! I’m priveledged to be here!

  40. TexasFred says:

As some of you may have noticed, I’m a highly opinionated individual and I have no use for libbers, lefty’s, anti-Americans, pro-abortionists or ANY other vermin that try their very best to destroy this great nation…

My real name IS Fred, the wife and I live in a nice quiet bedroom community not too far from Dallas, I am retired now and this blog thing started as a hobby but it’s expanding a bit, it’s something I really enjoy, it’s mentally challenging and I have met some really nice folks thru blogs, and some that aren’t too hot as well, but it’s easy to ignore those you don’t care to associate with…

I won’t bore you with family or educational history, let it surfice to say, I can type, I can spell pretty well at times, diction and grammar are usually in their proper order , I’m not boring, I speak my mind and you NEVER have to guess about where I stand on an issue, how good can it get??

  41. sanity says:

A little add-on if you will indulge me…

Got to thinking about this after I posted, and think Humor is a interesting way to tell somethings about people.

Think of what you like and compare it to those around you, might suprise you:

    * I used to love George Carlin, but found as he gets older the more hateful his comedy gets, his early stuff was great.

I do not find any of hte late night comedians funny. Jay Leno finally made me laugh with the today show mix of “Brokeback Mornings” with Matt Lauer on bottom and Al Roker on top for a Luge(sp) run.

Other than that, I wonder how they keep thier jobs, especially Letterman. Sorry ot the Letterman fans, but I really don’t find anything he does or says funny.

Give me the days of Johnny Carson…there ya go. All the rest are pale imitations.

As for Comedians I like, that would be:

    * Bill Cosby – After all these years he can still make me grin.

    * Bill Engvall – His jokes on ‘Here’s Your sign’ hits right on the mark.

    * Ron White – Just listen to him. Maybe he is an acquired taste but I find him funny.

In TV I find the show I enjoy are:

    * Reba – Clean and funny. Nice combination not seens since Cosby show for most part.

    * George Lopez – Acquired Taste I guess. Like his TV show better than his standup.

    * Freddie – It’s starting to grow on me. Got to love that Grandma. she makes the show.

    * I watch most the CSI’s, I find them interesting.

Anyways, that is what I wanted to add to my original post but seemed to think about it only after I had already posted. Thank you for bearing with me.
    ;)

I am married to my second wife who I love dearly, and who is great even though I’m not.
I have always had a conservative leaning but I did vote for that asshat Clinton the first time around and regreted it about 10 minutes later. I work testing microwave antennas for Defense and Space programs for both military and civilian use.

I started really being interested in politics in 1991 after I started listening to Neal Boortz and Rush Limbaugh. I was liberal in my early years couldn’t help it I grew up during the 60s and early 70s that’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it. I am not a big Bush fan I agreed with him cutting taxes (Didn’t cut deep enough!) and the war on terror. I have voted Libertarian and Republican I believe in strict interpretation of our Constitution. Charity should be up to the individual and not the income redistribution center our government has become.

My hobbies are tinkering with a Corvette (Driving it mostly) and a Marine Reef Aquarium 135 gallon and home improvements.

  48. What do I wear? – Start off with some nice trim hagger slacks, very dark smoke grey full neck pullover, no stocker pants or bimini shorts, no tassled loafers or running shoes, maybe some nice floursheim top siders, in general the studied casual look….

Where do we go? – A good start is to be sensitive enough to her needs to at least pick something she doesn’t hate that you can share together…

what do I say? – Relax and be yourself, as long as that doesn’t include a no-stop narrative from the day you were born, no small animal jokes like “a baby seal walks into a club”, keep it light and pithy, first impressions are the ones that count with the wimmins…

    - Now I have to finish sweeping ST off her feet with my understated, but magnetic charm, so I’ll have to get back to you later… Bon appitite’…
