How many of you are watching the Olympics?

Posted by: Sister Toldjah on February 19, 2006 at 9:34 pm

Torino Olympics 2006I just haven’t gotten into watching too much of the winter Olympics coverage this year. In fact, most of what I know about this year’s Olympics I’ve read in the news.

Are you watching? If so, what sports are you paying the most attention to? I normally am interested in watching the figure skating and ice dancing competitions.

Here’s the latest on the medal count. As of this writing, Germany and Norway are first and second respectively with the US in third. The US and Germany are tied with the most golds at 7 each.

Big and heavy cloud is disrupting my sat link, so no O’s today. The figure skating is huge here. How’re the Japanese doing?

  2. forest hunter says:

No medals listed for the Japanese, guess the previous was a dumb question. That whole look before you triple spinny thing, thing.

Olympics? The Olympics are on? Really? :o Hmmm…what to watch, what to watch? :-? ….{*ruffling through his TV Guide*}…hmmm, there’s curling, otherwise known as “bowling with landmines”…nah…figure skating?…nah…that ain’t a sport…anything that relies solely on judges is a competition not a sport :-w …hockey?…nah…too slow compared to NHL |-) …ski jumping?…nah…it doesn’t have the same thrill since ABC’s “the agony of defeat” guy was cut…oh well, no thanks, nothing to see here…
    =))

I’m watching hockey coverage and that’s it. The gold is up for grabs – no clear cut favorite. Other than that I just can’t get into the XCountry no matter how much Al Trautwig dramatizes it…

Hockey too slow compared to the NHL? When the good teams are playing (USA, Canada, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Slovakia, Czech Republic) the action is fast and furious – the teams are very evenly matched so you’re not seeing wide open scoring. The bad thing is the international rules – refs aren’t calling some of the interference (teams like Latvia, Kazakhstan, Switzerland are using it more..), and just plain ol’ stupid rules (can’t play the puck without a helmet, 10 minute misconduct after a check from behind)..

I still watch, but the Olympics just ain’t the same since they let the Pros compete in Hockey, took the “figures” out of figure skating, and gave a Gold Medal to Kathy Yamiguchi even after she butt-printed.

I caught a little bit of it.

I’ve always wondered who put cross country skiing and target shooting together to comprise the biathlon…and curling? What is up with that?!

    Anyway, GO U.S.!!! **==

  7. Chuck says:

Not a big sports enthusiast, so not really paying attention. I caught a little a bit of the curling yesterday and was surprised that it’s actually considered a sport.

  8. GBA says:

USA may win the gold today in Mens Curling. So grab a bottle of your favorite whatevever you drink to stay warm and check it out.

I love the Olympics, and even though NBC has been getting crushed, ratings-wise, there’s been a lot of good stuff to watch.

I’ve been doing a good bit of Olympics blogging of late. Very enjoyable.

Ryan, ease up my friend. I think I made it as obvious as I could that my comments were made tongue-firmly-planted-in-cheek. \:d/

I’m not watching them. I watched a little last night for the first time while I was putting laundry away in my daughter’s room.

However, anything that says “Figure Skating” is getting TIVOed for my daughter.

I would watch it more if there were more specific schedules available for particular events.

If I ever learn that I am terminally ill, I’ll lay in a good supply of curling videos. That way, minutes will feel like hours, hours will feel like days, days will feel like…

I must admit that I like snowboard cross. If they could add in roller derby elbows, we might just have something there!

    Literally LOL! =))

  14. - Personally I wouldn’t miss the Bermuda bob sled team. With Kwan out of the womens figure skating, most of the intrigue is gone from that fun on ice, except maybe a round of third stringers trying to see which one can keep from falling down. Hockey, well with the Gretzgy thing turning out to be no “there” there, thats fizzled. Guess theres always the new season of the Saprano’s to look forward too.
