Additionally, since this thread was originally about Hillary...I just want to make it clear...the previous 8 years of her runing the white house was more than enough for me.

Plus she doesn't smile enough. She's just too damn mad all the time!

Sanity...I love the analogy of Comcast vs. Dish. Great point. The problem however, won't be solved by competition.

The fault in your logic is that the entire thing is based on a false assumption which is that the educational bureaucracy cares if you aren't a customer. They get paid either way.

Further, public education is something we cannot do without. Like it or not, there are poor people in this country. Whether these people are lazy leaching scum suckers or they come from long line of hard working folks who simple haven't caught a break makes no difference. It's not for them. It's for thier kids. The kids didn't pick thier parents and shouldn't be penalized for their parents' actions. (or lack thereof)
Either way, it is in our best interest to make sure that these kids get at least a basic education. Where do you think these kids are going to get money when they grow up if they can't get a job to earn it? The simple answer is from you...they'll steal it.

So we'll just lock them up right? Well, what's more expensive...paying for 30-50 years of incarceration or 12 years of school? That my dear, is why EVERYONE has an interest in public education.

So what's the solution? Accountability. Simple. Where should the blame go for the current state of affairs? Us. Simple. We as a society have to demand that ALL of our public servants do thier jobs. No free passes if you a Dem or Rep, Cons. or Liberal.

I don't care what your political preference is. If you're an American it your duty to get involved...not just sit around on blog pages and bitch about the situation. For heavens' sake, take a look at voter turnout..what's the national average? It's got to be below 35%. All of you, last november, how many of your neighbors did you persuade to go and vote? Face it, we're in the state we are because of how we are.

Just think, if we all spent 25% of the time we spend on blogs and dedicated it to brainstorming solutions, writing letters, and making phone calls, alot would change.

But at the end of the day, that's what most of us are inclined to do...sit and bitch.

Until that changes...nothing will.

No thanks, I think we will stick with our system of Capitalism.

When I think of religous anarchy (an oxymoron), I think of Islam and its extremists.

Islam = religon
Extremists = anarchy

What if you look at this from a business point of view and aa a consumer.....

If the business (Public School System) does not meet your needs or you are having to much trouble with it, should you not have the ability to goto a competitor and give them your business?

Example:

COMCAST: Customer service is non-existent, I have to much trouble dealing with them. Once they have my dollar they could care less about me as a customer. Thier programming is not what I want.

DISH NETWORK (SATELLITE):
I decide I have had enough of the attitude and way Comcast does business so I decide to switch to another service provider that will fulfill the needs i have as a comsumer.

This is only an example of what I am talking about.

Should we not have the same ability to do the same for public schools and education?

What rights should we have as comsumers?

What would it be called if you could only get your service say from only ONE provider? All over the US, you could only have Comcast and not have anything else?

Would that be considered a monopoly?
Wouldn't that be considered illegal?
So why do we tolerate it in our education?

Shouldn't we as consumers have the ability to choose if we do not like the product or service (public schools)?

Perhaps the curren stagnate public schools will become better when there is finally competition. The same way with business. If you have competition, it brings out better prices of products and companies look for ways to compete against each other for customers.

I also do not think we should pay for a service we do not get.

Should I have ot pay for comcast if I do not have a TV or use a different service?

Then why should I have to pay for schools through taxes if I own a house, if I have no children or I Home School or send my children to private school?

Something does not strike me as quite right with that.

I have a sense of humor and I understand reality. Reality is that the current education system in this country is in very bad shape. Now you can continue going along with the status quo like your every post has reiterated or you can start using some of your intellect to come up with creative ideas to initiate some change. I am not asking for a "free lunch", what I want is "Payment upon Services Rendered". It is a concept as old as Adam. If anyone is getting a free lunch it is the present education system. It needs some competition. How do you think we have as many great colleges and universities that this country enjoys?? They competed for quality students and the money that brings those students to, Northwestern or MIT to name a couple. Yes I understand that what I am saying is never going to happen, but something needs to change. What is it going to take to shake up the administrations of these school districts to make them realize that education in this country is not in as good of shape as it was 50 years ago??

Ohhh and thanks for reminding me of my lack of latin. You see I went to a PUBLIC school where they didn't teach such "nonsense" as latin. Also thanks for proving my point about what is lacking in public education. - Lorica

BTW

"The world needs ditchdiggers too"

That's a line from CaddyShack.
Judge Smails says it to Danny Noonan when Danny is on his jock about getting a scholarship but he does not have the grades to earn one.

Lorica,

"it is about protecting the status quo"

Oh so you like latin. I got one for you.

Nullum Prandium Gratum!

If you studied in latin class you would know what this means. It's a concept as old as the Romans.

It means " NO FREE LUNCH! "

So stop kidding yourself. If you don't like welfare then don't take welfare money. It's that simple.

We have no shortage of heavy equipment operators either. Nor a shortage of mechanics. We do have a shortage of factory jobs having sent those jobs to China.

And if you home school you still have to test every year. So you need to pay anyway. We all have to pay. That's called reality... that's life. Get over yourself. Even parents who send their kids to private school have to pay.

If they start handing out welfare vouchers I will be the first in line to get some of that free money. I have already put away for my sons entire college education and he's only 2 years old. So it would be nothing but gravy for me.

I find it amazing when liberals start talking about how they promote personal responsiblity and accountability. It is just laughable. These are the people who have overseen the greatest wealth redistribution plan in human history. Some personal responsiblity. These the guys that have an open door on our jails, some accountability. Let's set Tookie Free why don't we. I am certain that abortion on demand is about responsbility and accountability. /Laugh GBA's point is not about welfare, it is about protecting the status quo. It is not in the best interest of anyones children to continue under the present education system. I go back to my original point. If you home school you should not have to pay a tax to an education system that you receive no benefit from. If you pay for private education why should you pay for taxes going to schools you don't use. Now private schooling or home schooling would not be so popular if the present education system we had was held to some "accountability", which it hasn't been until lately. It is absurdity to believe that this is about some new form of Republican Welfare. I understand that you all on the left think you have the market cornered on the issue of welfare, but you are blinded by your own desire to do good works. - Lorica

Ohhh GBA I do not stand corrected with my original statement about your judging others. I guess it was the statement about ditch diggers that bothered me most. You see in this country we need Heavy Equipment operators, and skilled labor to make those machines, and keep them running. We need forward thinking individuals, not people who believe that the reality they live in is as good as it will get. You Sir are stuck in a rut.

I find it amazing when liberals start talking about how they promote personal responsiblity and accountability. It is just laughable. These are the people who have overseen the greatest wealth redistribution plan in human history. Some personal responsiblity. These the guys that have an open door on our jails, some accountability. Let’s set Tookie Free why don’t we. I am certain that abortion on demand is about responsbility and accountability. /Laugh GBA’s point is not about welfare, it is about protecting the status quo. It is not in the best interest of anyones children to continue under the present education system. I go back to my original point. If you home school you should not have to pay a tax to an education system that you receive no benefit from. If you pay for private education why should you pay for taxes going to schools you don’t use. Now private schooling or home schooling would not be so popular if the present education system we had was held to some “accountability”, which it hasn’t been until lately. It is absurdity to believe that this is about some new form of Republican Welfare. I understand that you all on the left think you have the market cornered on the issue of welfare, but you are blinded by your own desire to do good works. – Lorica

I thought my remark was obvious and less said was better. Severian explained it perfectly.

steve's obdurate position on the same old Bash Bush meme, perhaps you view as tenacious. IMO, there are better words to describe people who match his frozen stance.
