Sister Toldjah reports that the House may have jumped the port shark according to statements from Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist…

The lease contract is owned by a British company and they are selling to a UAE company the way I understand. But that lease is of ports that we own.

Hopefully I stated it right.

In an election-year repudiation of President Bush, a House panel dominated by Republicans voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to block a Dubai-owned firm from taking control of some U.S port operations.
By 62-2, the Appropriations Committee voted to bar DP World, run by the government of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, from holding leases or contracts at U.S. ports.

Bush has promised to veto any such measure passed by Congress, but there is widespread public opposition to the deal and the GOP fears losing its advantage on the issue of national security in this fall’s elections…

…By its vote, the House committee attached the ports language to a must-pass $91 billion measure financing hurricane recovery and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The full House could consider that measure as early as next week.

While GOP Senate leaders hope to delay a quick showdown with Bush on the issue, the House panel, including members of Bush’s own party, showed a willingness to defy him.

Uh … except for those ports that are already out of American hands, that is.

Can we actually block the sale if it is no longer ‘ours’ to begin with?

What is the reason a LOT of people have to be informed?

Because the press has FALLEN down on the job. They have FAILED. In these polls on this subject, more than half of the people don’t know the details or basic operational questions or the fact that most of our ports are leased out to be managed by a foreign company…

The press has done very little to change that impression. Sure they’ve put out a little article here or there like Dick Meyers but when the drumbeat on this issue continues and the people remain uninformed, it is hard for America to rise above.

It is always NEW issues like this that makes me realize that most americans are not really exposed to an alternative media, are apathetic, and are who the legacy media rely on for their daily misinformation to try to gain back the Congress or White House.

It points out how large the job is for conservatives. We have to speak on a variety of subjects and attract as many new people to conservativism as possible.

But what is even more distressing is the republicans who blinked the first time the democrats played stood up and challanged them to play chicken.

To many politicians are jumping an a band wagon with no wheels.

The security issue never has been an issue now or ever. 100% of the catastrophe from 9/11 was American run, owned and operated, with the possible exception of the English as a second language speaking folks that work within that entire system. Yes or no……

The UAE have very little to do with security that I know of. That responsibility or lack thereof is another department and separate from this, as far as I’ve been led to understand.

There are still a whole bunch of people that can’t define the difference between terminals and ports. This is still being referred to as “selling the ports”, which drives this old man right up a rope.
