I love this topic. Susan Estrich lays out a case on why liberals with BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome – she doesn’t mention the disease though) aren’t helping the Democrat party. In it she writes:

a passionate segment of the Democratic Party, the ones who quite simply hate George Bush.

They find him smug, arrogant and self-righteous. They distrust his motives. They do not understand why leading Democrats don’t just come out and censure, impeach and otherwise string him up at dawn. They love Russ Feingold and Howard Dean, and are impatient with Hillary’s perceived hawkishness. Get them going and they get going.

The only problem, of course, which they don’t want to hear, is that Hugh is right about them. If you only needed 40 percent to win elections, it might be fine. But elections require 51 percent, and you can take all the stands you want in favor of hatred, but it doesn’t get you to that magic number.

The people in the middle, the people whose votes take you from the hard core liberal Democrats to a governing majority in this country, are increasingly concerned about the direction this country is going in, but they don’t question George Bush’s motives. They don’t think he lied to them intentionally, and they don’t have much use for people screaming about the fact that he did.

Argue that stand and you lose. Define the middle right, and occupy it, and you win.

I am actually SAD to see Susan write this because Democrats could adopt the strategy and win. BUT, it is so obvious that I don’t think the people with BDS will actually embrace the strategy.

Another beauty line she writes, “Imagine if Democrats actually had an agenda…

WHich lead to this part of her article:

They know that they need an agenda, but the contents are tricky.

Here’s the problem — and it’s no different from the one I faced on the lawn in Palm Springs this weekend: You’ve got a significant number of Democrats, from safe districts and blue states, who might as well call themselves Bush Haters, and are certainly proud liberals, and for whom it would be easy to fashion an agenda that would command a rousing 42 percent support in this country.

Access to abortion; gay rights; universal health care; all of those would be easy issues.

The only problem with that agenda is that you would end up doing yourself no good in the midterms, and losing the next presidential race.

Let me say tha tthe REST of her article is REALLY good. Please go read it.

  2. Severian says:

    Even then, notice her moonbattery:

“They don’t think he lied to them intentionally, and they don’t have much use for people screaming about the fact that he did.”

Even when writing an article chastising her party for their anti-Bush hatred, she obviously still buys the party line that Bush actually lied. Twit…

If you get a chance read Zell Miller’s book “A National Party No More: The Conscience of a Conservative Democrat” it had Democrats spinning on their eyebrows and spitting wooden nickels.

  4. - People Different from us: News of the Weird -

“My Gun is broke” – An Oklahoma city bank teller recently called police to report a robbery in progress. She had decided not to obey the instructions of the holdup note thrust at her by the would be crook, demanding she “fill the paper bag with all your money, and no one will get hurt”, and called police instead. The problem. The teller noticed the man was aiming a ball point pen at her. Local police officials say that the man’s excuse for the lapse in common sense was: “My darn gun jammed on the way to the bank, and the pen was all I had left in my pocket”. The pen is mightier than the gun, except in banks?

“My name is Charles, and I rob banks” – In another case in Matlin Indianna, a robber handed a note to a teller stating: “this is a stickup. Hand over all your cash. Charles Martin, 374 Dublin ave.” . The teller did as instructed and then called local police, who quickly aprehended Mr. Martin at his residence. Asked why in the world he would sign his name to a robbery note, the Matlin Chief of police explained….”Apparently he had been thrown out of a laudramat just up the street from the bank about an hour earlier, by a very large angry female proprietor, when he tried to burgle her store, and he used an unsigned version of the holdup note, but got it mixed up with the “draft” version he had written as practice….”. Some things definately should be left to your secretary.

“Unclear on the concept and Other ironies” – Mrs. Zulima Farber became the New Jersey Attourney General in January, even though her public record lists 13 speeding tickets, 3 license suspensions, and 2 bench warrents for failure to appear on the ticket charges. Ms Farber acknowleged the embarrassment at her record, and joked that it might take psychoanalysis to determine why she does these things. A psychologist, interviewed by the New York Daily News, rejected the idea, saying “She just needs a good spanking”.

“Super compelling arguments we’re glad we didn’t think of” According to Georgia’s Hartwell Sun newspaper, state Senator Nancy Schaefer, speaking at an “issues day” event in Februrary, said one reason illegal immigrants find work in the US is because “50 million” abortions in the last few decades across the country have caused a severe stateside labor shortage. Ms Schaefer stated “We could have used those people”. Some days it really would be better to go fishing.

  6. - Personally I like Susan, from her frumpy non-glitzy news-anchorish fashion sense, to her obvious angst and frustrations, trying to find some way to present her moonbat gaggles ideas, and put a softer, less swamp fevorish tinge to the things they want her to say. She was the only Liberal talking head on TV that was gracious about Bushs win election morning, when the other networks finally caved and realized the PEW exit poll was a scam. Everybody else from Chris Mathews/Ron (my dad must be spinning in his grave)Reagan to the rest of the bastion of network limo liberal anchors were already talking “voter frauds” and miscounts. She stated Bush had won fairly, no matter how badly her side might feel. I don’t envy the job she has to do.

  7. Baklava says:

    Howard Dean’s 6 point plan:

    1) Raise Minimum wage
    2) Fair taxes for the middle class
    3) Ban gifts and travel for lobbyists
    4) Cargo inspection
    5) Fix Medicare
    6) “Transition” in Iraq

    It’s a start. So let’s get into the details…
    1) In CA, it is higher than the federal minimum wage. If you raise the minimum wage across America what do you raise it to? This is something that should be left to the states but Democrats use it as posturing vote getting for people in the Big Cities who obviously can’t live on $5.15 per hour. If you can’t.. then MOVE OUT of the city.

    2) What does this one mean? Higher or lower taxes for the middle class? The top 50% of income earners pay 96.54% of the income tax. The top 10% of income earners pay 65.84%. That means that everyone between the top 10% and 50% pay 30.7% of the income taxes. I would say these are the middle class people. You should even include some poorer than the 50% in that mix. But you can’t make the bottom 50% pickup more of that tax (or Democrats would be screaming and the top 10% are already taxed heavily.

    3) Sure. Do it. Change the rules or bring them up for a vote. Stop playing politics with the issue and acting like Democrats don’t receive gifts… or campaign contributions… or travel…

    4) Unrealistic populism speak. Container scrutiny has increased since 9/11 but hasn’t gone from barely anything to 100%. How much would 100% cost? A LOT of money. Will eminent domain be used to seize ports from foreign companies? What will they be compensated? Will these foreign countries be likely to get mad at us for seizing their assets and destroying their business? Is populism worth the price of poor diplomacy? How about an honest debate about what we should do from hear for container shipping?

    5) Fix Medicare? What are the details? Can Republicans “fix” social security while we are on this topic? Both of these need an overhaul. Democrats need to stop accusing Republicans of cutting Medicare when they NEVER have. Voters need to LEARN about the lying that Democrats have been doing on both issues. Both Democrats and Republicans need to work together towards providing assistance to the elderly and non-able-bodied without false allegations and with a solution that takes into account people living longer and using more medical care.

    6) Transitioning in Iraq is happening. Despite allegations by the left Iraq shouldn’t be abandoned and follow through on the transition should be complete and with due diligence. If Democrats can abandon their set of false allegations for the good of the country and American and Iraq’s future the world would be better off. Democrats could earn plenty of brownie points from me. Alas… this is a PIPE DREAM I’m thinking. What do you think? Any liberals want to step up to the plate here?

  8. Baklava says:

Michelle Malkin posted a story about the Democrat operatives on election day in 2004 getting jail time:

Four Democratic presidential campaign workers were sentenced to jail time ranging from four months to six months Wednesday for puncturing the tires of Republican vehicles on Election Day 2004.

The men had pleaded no contest in January to misdemeanor property damage. A fifth worker was found not guilty.

Those who pleaded no contest were Sowande A. Omokunde, the son of Democratic U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Milwaukee; Michael Pratt, the son of former acting Milwaukee Mayor Marvin Pratt; and Lewis Caldwell and Lavelle Mohammad, both from Milwaukee.

They originally were charged with felony property damage but accepted plea deals on the lesser charge.

Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Michael Brennan rejected prosecutors’ recommendation of probation and no jail time.

“This case had to be a public example of what can happen when you interfere with voters’ rights,” Brennan said.

The men faced a maximum nine-month jail term and fines of $10,000.

  11. Dean negated himself at the top of his lungs, 2+ years ago in Iowa. Nothing he could do, or say at this point, could make him look any more deranged and out of touch with anything resembling mainstream America. Just the perfect candidate for DNC leader of a party that has devolved into a cult.

Very Funny Bang!!! =)) Little tidbits in the news that you usually don’t hear about.

Bak as usual very well thought out. It is getting very tiresome listening to Democratic leadership constantly complaining about how bad GW is. It is tough to vote for people that don’t have a single good thing to say about out present economy. Or unemployment at 4.7 percent. Housing starts and Home ownership at all time highs. The WOT is actually working. New Governments in both Afghanistan and Iraq. PSI (proliferation security initiative) is working well. I see things in the Government getting better not worse. Pride in the military is at all time highs. It is very good that the boys have someone they trust as Commander and Chief. I still believe that the lack of leadership in the Dem party is going to ruin the midterm elections for them the American people are just plain tired of the constant whining. We shall see. – Lorica

  13. PCD says:

Bak, I posted often about the Milwaukee 5. Being that Wisconsin is my home state and Wisconsin likes to think that Democrats are pure and pristine preservers of all that is good, I was thoroughly outraged not only by the behavior, the arrogance of the Wisconsin Democrat party from top to bottom, but the arrogance of the press in not publicizing the trial, the sweetheart deal the Democrat DA gave, and the light sentence offered.

  14. Baklava says:

    ST, Thanks sweety!

PCD, I kinda forgot about them. I haven’t heard ANY news of them since election day. The darned facist criminals!

  15. G-Monster says:

during the governor’s race, you should have seen susan estrich. while arnold was beating the pants off of gray davis, susan was on fox news and she was in denial. she was acting like she had some information that gray davis was winning. her reporting was similar to that of baghdad bob.

  16. Baklava says:

Funny thing was…. Gray wasn’t on the ballot. He was unable to put his name on the ballot because it was a recall ballot.

It was structured as such (exact wording is not relevant):
Question 1: Do you wish to recall Gray Davis (a majority by far said yes.
Question 2: Which of the following Candidates should be governor: The only widely known Democrat on the ballot was Cruz Bustamante the LT Gov who said the N word and wasn’t held to task by the media. Arnold overshadowed Cruz even though a Republican due to his star status.

I suppose Susan thought Gray wouldn’t be recalled then.

  17. G Monster says:

I just remember her sitting there, saying she had inside sources that said the dems were winning something, when it was obvious they were getting smoked.

  18. G Monster says:

I agree with some of you, that she is beginning to realize she belongs to a party of idiots. But she still tries to be a mouthpiece for the left.

  19. - Actually it was kind of amusing, watching her “reports” from time to time all night long on election day. She’ll kept looking at the exit polls versus the numbers that were rolling in, stste after state, and saying “Well things still seem to be up in the air, we’ll just have to wait and see. Remember we havn’t seen anything but early returns from the “swing” states. The “swing” states were going to be their last minute victory, after all they had thousands of workers out shuffling around voting spots trying to see if the phoney PEW poll was discouraging last minute conservative voters, and I’m sure vthey were calloing in hopeful reports. “Low” voter turnout etc.

    - But she wasn’t as bad as the zombies on the Left wing network shows. By 4 am they were shell shocked and looked like deer in the headlights. I remember some of them got to where they just didn’t know what else to say. hahahaha.

I actually thought some of them were going to start crying…=))

  21. Baklava says:

One thing is FOR sure. She isn’t about to convert to be conservative or a Republican. She truly believes in liberalism and I RESPECT her for that. It is perfectly fine to believe in principles and ideas of being even more compassionate than others with other people’s money. We conservatives would just need to help people understand why that isn’t a good plan, and why tough love and personal responsibility is needed sometimes.

I even respect her more because she understands the harm the left wingers full of hate are doing to the party she belongs to.

She is completely different than Zell Miller. Zell believes in lower taxes and individual responsibility.

  22. G-Monster says:

Zell Miller has big balls. When he spoke at the republican convention, that was incredible. He realized his party had been hijacked and he went out and took a stand. More democrats should follow suit.

  23. - Zell is a total pyhria to the Libtards, because he speaks “truth to leftwing b***s***” using a twist on their own words. One memorable statement from the speech at the RNC:

“[Whats] our troops supposed to do, fight the war with spitballs…”

    - Gotta love ‘em, the old rascal….

  24. G Monster says:

Zell had an even better moment, when he slapped around Chris Mathews the day after the famous Mathews-Malkin interview. I would vote for Zell Miller. He seems to be a pretty stand up guy.
