Howdy

Posted by: ST on May 4, 2006 at 11:29 am

Just wanted to check in and say hello to everyone – feeling better at this point today but had the hunger pangs problem earlier this morning so it is touch and go. My visit to the doctor was a mixed bag in terms of what I felt was accomplished from it but I am back on the Prevacid thanks to the doc. writing a prescription for it that allows for two refills. I’m on my way to getting a handle on the problem, which in and of itself makes me feel better.

Taking the rest of the day to relax and make sure I’m feeling up to speed and then will return to work tomorrow. I’m looking fwd to it as I feel like this has been one of the most unproductive weeks in my entire life. I hate that! I’ll have a lot of work to catch up on Friday during the day but sometime tomorrow night or early Saturday I should be back to blogging as normal. I have missed it, along with chit chatting with all of you.

Thanks to everyone who has sent well wishes in email or posted them here. I have not had the chance to respond to each one personally because I’ve been trying to rest this week and do *very little* online – but I know the kind thoughts and prayers have definitely helped me feel better and stronger. God bless you. I have been at mom and dad’s most of the week for some extra TLC – there is nothing like the extra sweet care from your folks to help you get through times like this. I didn’t want to be alone considering how I was feeling (with sometimes feeling to weak to get a glass of water), so they invited me to stay with them and so I did :) The down side to that is that I’ve hardly seen my house this week – so it’ll be nice to return to my home tomorrow after work and get back into the swing of things.

To any radlib nutheads out there who might have been hopeful that I was leaving the blogosphere for good just because I’ve been gone for a few days, I’m not sorry to disappoint you :D

Consider this a new open thread, and I’ll catch back up with ya’ll either Fri night or first thing Saturday. Lookin’ fwd to it!

Must be something going around-feel better, ST. You didn’t miss much anyway-Moussaui verdict, Russia/China blocking UN on Iran, Muslim terrorists in France blow up the Louvre…ooops! Last one not yet.
I think that if France does fall to Shariah/Muslim rule, I can’t see them leaving the greatest treasurehouse of Western civilization standing.

Woo hoo! My day is complete.:d

  8. Baklava says:

Sorry to get this off my chest:

A former top CIA spy says the United States deliberately turned down several opportunities to kill terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in the lead-up to the Iraq war.

Mike Scheuer headed the CIA’s bin Laden unit for six years before resigning in 2004.

He has told the ABC’s Four Corners program the Bush administration had Zarqawi in its sights almost every day for a year.

He says a plan to destroy Zarqawi’s training camp in Kurdistan was abandoned for diplomatic reasons.

“The reasons the intelligence service got for not shooting Zarqawi was simply that the President and the National Security Council decided it was more important not to give the Europeans the impression we were gunslingers,” he said.

This is what I’ve been saying all along. Bush has been too far to the LEFT in this war on terror. Trying to make nice and be diplomatic and only use enough force to try NOT to kill innocents. We could be using bigger bombs, killing the Zarqawi’s and NOT worrying about what leftists think. This war has dragged on and COST lives due to leftists. Bush on almost every issue has caved into leftists. He is left of center. First president to provide federal funding for stem cell research. Has increased federal spending on education more than Clinton and Bush Senior. Scaled down tax cuts and gave earned income tax credits (which give tax cuts to people who don’t pay taxes) to get people like Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe on board.

Leftists don’t realize how good they have it. We haven’t had a working majority of conservatives at the federal level. Leftists have ruled this country for over 6 decades. While government continues to grow and be worried about leftist nation opinions with respect to foreign policy for over 6 decades conservatives are attacked as if government is being cut (when it hasn’t) and as if the U.S. is so big bad and arrogant and ugly.
Shoot. If I was persident I’d show you big bad and arrogant and ugly. Leftists would have NO say anymore. And I consider my self a centrist conservative. I only want to see government keep current spending lvels for a decade while we reprioritize what we spend on, prepare for the baby boomers and invest in infrastructure and national defense and make it so that the safety net isn’t diluted for those who aren’t able-bodied and elderly but freeloaders thinking that government needs to provide the answer for all things. Martial law woudl’ve been imposed in Iraq. Only their oil money would be used for reconstruction (but we didn’t want to look like theives) and if someone rattled their fists and made threats and masterminded ambushes and IED’s they woud’ve been killed with as much FIREPOWER as it took.

    Welcome Back Kotter…..err…ST!

I figured if I didn’t post while you were gone, maybe they think we eloped… =))

On a serious side, good to see you back in the saddle again, we were all worried. I thought we might have to break out search parties…

Though I think some of these wise guys would just love to have an excuse to come over to your house… ;)

Mainly I just had a very sharing family, my daughter shared the flu with my son, who shared it with the wife, who shared it with me….unfortunately mine hit in the middle of a 12 hour midnight shift at work. No one to cover for me, so spent 7 hours in abject misery, quoting ‘europe’ alot. The rest of the week felt like someone kicked in my ribs.

The fun of being sick, literally sick, not a liberal I mean. :-"

  11. Baklava says:

“House Republicans called on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to prosecute businesses shut down yesterday by their illegal alien employees who took the day off to participate in protests of immigration legislation.

“Too often, we presume that fault lies with the illegal migrant worker, but we need to recognize that the employer broke the law by hiring the illegal alien,” wrote Republican Reps. Jack Kingston of Georgia and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee. “We believe the federal government has an obligation to enforce the nation’s immigration laws and must actively investigate any and all instances where it is apparent industries have knowingly and willingly hired those who entered this country illegally.”

    Source

That’s what I was saying. They made themselves known. Tyson and Perdue you better clean up your act or we’ll be cleaning it for you. You want illegl immigration cleaned up? Get a working majority of conservatives in office. We don’t have it now.

  12. steve says:

Why did the US Army dress up in radiation suits before going into battle in Iraq? Because we were firing depleted uranium shells into tanks. Thousands of uranium rounds were fired and the uranium is now leaching in the drinking water. If that is not a war crime, it should be. Peace

  13. sanity says:

Seems to come down to feelings or logic.

We are made to feel bad in this PC time because someone came here illegally (though they never will say ILLEGALLY – don’t want to point out they broke the law), that they do the jobs no one else wants to (which is false also and proven to be false), that they came here to make a better life for themselves (playing on our feeling and the harp strings now).

While others feel that they are here illegally, they broke the law coming into the US, they are here taking money from our economy and sending billions into Mexico, they are a drain on our services both in schools and welfare. We see they have tried to bring up how much they contribute, but it will now start coming to light a comparison of how much they contribute vs how much they take (welfare, emergency services, schools, ect).

They have also made the mistake of trying to compare themselves to the Civil Rights Movement, which has angered black americans who feel they have no right to use nor try and compare what they went through to what illegal aliens are doing.

Needless to say, more Americans have been pushed away from support of illegals because of these actions, and as more signs of ‘this is our land’ and flying mexican flags over the american flag, and even more disturbing and distasteful things come up, more Americans will push their lawmakers to do something.

Instead of this being about the immigration bill, this was allowed to get out of hand, with ANSWER and MOVEON.ORG being backers of this, with radical groups marching inlcuded, Gay rights, black panthers, ect, just made this a three ring circus of the most disrespectful and distasteful kind.

When you have extreme liberal left groups supporting you, you know it will not turn out good.

  14. blogagog says:

Did you guys see that sheriff from Phoenix on FOX News? He’s actually enforcing the illegal immigration laws! What a concept. I bet he gets in trouble for it :)

Also, did you see the pro-illegal lawyer on Lou Dobb’s? He said that if an illegal was returned to Mexico, and arrested for being in the USA later the same day, then the illegal was being harassed! Doh. Dobb’s almost fell out of his chair :)

Get well soon ST! My father says prilosec is better than prevacid, but he has acid-reflux, so it may not be right for your ailment.

  15. Tyrmadris says:

Steve, the army doesn’t have radiation suits, they have MOPP gear, a form of NBC protection. The times they had it on, it was because of the expected chemical rounds of the Iraqis. Only specific specialists have radiation suits, and they go along afterward to check the wreckage, if it’s necessary. At this point they usually collect the stuff for reuse or disposal. And by ‘usually’, I mean a majority of the time, as there are specialists who go behind and clean these things up.
In case you’re wondering, the difference between the NBC gear and a true ‘radiation suit’ is that the latter actual has a weave of dense substance (like lead) that can halt the more harmful forms of radiation (gamma rays and the like). NBC gear is just dense plastic with an absorbent charcoal layer. Any ‘radioactive’ emissions will be either alpha or beta particles (which are stopped by the plastic or even clothing, if I remember right, alphas are even stopped by human skin)) or the more rare Gamma variety (which is just nasty and will either be nonexistant or render you dead through the suit with no effort).
Also, as depleted uranium rounds are ARMOR PIERCING rounds, they are generally only fired at targets that have armor. I know it’s hard to fathom, but not many enemy tanks were sitting on top of wells, in the rivers, or in the middle of resevoirs. Most of them were encountered out in the middle of the desert where they were summarily destroyed. As well, in case you didn’t notice, most of the ‘drinking water’ doesn’t come from the middle of the desert. Most of it doesn’t come from directly beneath city streets, either.
Furthermore, assuming somehow that particulates of the substance did manage to slip into the ground somehow, the density of the depleted uranium prevents it from mixing in with the water, as it is several times more dense than even rock. While it’s feasible it could mix for a couple of minutes, the movement of the water would deposit the substance as extremely dense sediment along its path, cleaning itself out. The fact that water also isolates and absorbs the errant alpha and beta particles that are emitted even prevents it from irradiating an area.

How the hell you can consider this a war crime, I don’t know. Personally, if I were looking for ‘war crimes’, I’d take a look at the jihadis.

  16. CZ says:

:o) Why did the US Army dress up in radiation suits before going into battle in Iraq?

**== Ummm….letsee….hmmmm….to protect their lives? If they did not wear them the lefties would be screaming that we don’t protect our troops.

:o) Because we were firing depleted uranium shells into tanks.

**== Hey! Whatever it takes. Enemy tanks make big owies with their guns, ya know.

:o) Thousands of uranium rounds were fired and the uranium is now leaching in the drinking water.

**== Not to mention the oil supply!

:o) If that is not a war crime, it should be. Peace

**== A war crime? Like flying airliners into buildings to kill innocent people? That kind of war crime?

  18. Mahwah says:

“Did you guys see that sheriff from Phoenix on FOX News? He’s actually enforcing the illegal immigration laws! What a concept. I bet he gets in trouble for it”

Yup. That’s our Sheriff Joe. He’s quite a character around these parts, and has made a name for himself as a tough-as-nails lawman that takes no guff from anyone. He instituted ‘Tent City’ for prisoner overflow (US Gov military tents erected in the desert surrounded by fence and barbed wire – cheap and effective), issues prisoners regulation pink boxer underwear (also available at retail stores for those who wish to make a fashion statement), denies Playboy or any porno mags to the prisoner population, and generally treats prisoners like, well – prisoners. He said yesterday on O’Reilly that he’ll put up tents “from here to Mexico” if that’s what it takes to control the problem. ^:)^

The general consensus among those who have served time in Sheriff Joe’s jails is that they DON’T want to go back. What a concept… Joe is legend around these parts and has a lot of support. I just read today in the AZ Repugnant – er – Republic, that the Mexican government has hired a L.A. lawyer to sue Arizona and Sheriff Joe in particular for his ‘illegal’ detention of illegal aliens. They claim that only the U.S. Federales have the right to do anything about the current invasion from the southern border. Sheeesh. >:p

  19. Severian says:

Oh great, steve Edited. is onto the depleted uranium lie again, and demonstrating his massive ignorance of both military tactics and equipment and physics and chemistry at the same time, quite a feat!

DU is only very mildly radioactive, that’s why it’s called DEPLETED! Mainly an alpha emitter, with some beta. The major health hazard from DU is, get this, heavy metal poisoning, but even then, it’s significantly less poisoness than lead. The only people who have ever been documented to be suffering from heavy metal poisoning and any ill radiation effects are those that have ingested particles or vapor from when the round hit, and these people are the ones IN THE TANKS WHEN THEY WERE HIT!!! and were caught in the vapor and splatter.

Not many civilians inside armored vehicles. On top of this, recent documents translated and released from Iraq show that Hussein had done several nuclear experiments, from bomb tests to testing the effectiveness of nuclear materials as a poison and radiological bomb, the victims of these tests, and the resultant aftermath and cleanup, were cynically and specifically exploited by working with the various “human rights” groups to blame their radiation poisoning on the US and DU. But hey, it’s a lot more fun to kiss the ass of a genocidal tyrant like Hussein than to believe the facts presented by the US. I mean, c’mon, we all know the US is the ultimate evil in the world, and all the Hussein’s and Kim Jong Il’s are just loveable teddy bears who are misunderstood and driven to their excesses by the evil US.

Gag…there’s no shortage of idiots out there.

  20. andrew says:

“The general consensus among those who have served time in Sheriff Joe’s jails is that they DON’T want to go back.”

    unlike regular prisons.

  21. Severian says:

There are plenty of people, andrew, that have no great fear or dislike of jail, it’s just a place to pass time until they get out again. That’s why I always beleived in corporal punishment, the kind of guy who wouldn’t think twice about doing something that would put him in jail for a month or three, would think twice if it meant he got 20 lashes with a bamboo cane.

BTW, why is it that liberals like you consistantly need to pick statements that are prima facia true and uncontroversial and come up with petty, petulant, little snide comments. I know, it’s far far easier than actually thinking a long, cogent argument through and all. Shoot from the lip…:o)

  22. steve says:

Severian, your claiming that we did not use depleted uranium tipped shells in bush’s war on Iraqis? You and Tyrmadris need to do much more research because you both sound as incredible as bush,Cheney,Rumsfeld and Rice. We used them and they are exposing our own troops to constant radiation which is as much as 400 times normal limits. It’s time for our troops to come home. And it’s time for us to clean up Iraq’s enviornment. Peace

  23. mahwah says:

“”The general consensus among those who have served time in Sheriff Joe’s jails is that they DON’T want to go back.”

    unlike regular prisons.”

Yeah, unlike ‘regular’ prisons where the ‘prisoners’ get better food and nutrition than most of them got on the ‘outside’, free porno mags, free TV and movies, free use of the gym equipment, air conditioning, conjugal visitation rights, and lots of other bennies to help make their stay as pleasant as possible. Sheriff Joe won’t have any of that, and uses jail as it is meant to be – a deterrent to crime.

  25. Ahh – The ” The typing Telephone Poleâ„¢ ” is back on the job, with yet more proof he simply copies Libtard talking points he’s run across somewhere, bereft of the ability to even do a little google-time research.

    - Steve-oh, your screed sounds really really good. Theres just one problem. Notice the word “Depleted”. Yes. That one. See the reason its called depleated is because the radiation levels it emits are lower than your computer monitor. The only thing left in that state is the hard, non-radioactive metel. Thats why its used. Density. Good for penetrating things. Even a skull as dense as yours. But I digress.

    - The little fact you left out of your nonsensical story is that the troops that did wear anti-radiation suits, did so on occassion in anticipation of having to examine potential WMD processing sites that might actually have said high levels of radiation.

    - So with that backdrop lets review. First you completely run afowl of any sort of factual information, choosing as the stereotypical moonbat you are, to steadfastly lie outright, except in this case I willing to believe you are that ignorant of the facts concerning DU*. Then you cap that off by intentionally miss-stating the purpose of the troops occassional required equipment.

    - This constitutes a serious breech of debate ettiquette on several levels, as would be applied to normal people. For the unhinged left its business as usual.

    - For the rest of us, as difficult as it is, we really must resist feeding the trolls, if not for ST, then for the sake of your own sanity. Pardon to sanity for the use of the handle. Liberty

  37. steve, you remind me of someone at a forum I post at who irritated the crap out of me and so many others – even on the left, for quite some time. The rules of the forum were clear as to personal attacks, but the person irritated me so much that I found I couldn’t help myself from taking verbal shots at this person every chance I got, in spite of the rule. You do that to people here and after thinking about it have come to the conclusion that you really aren’t interested in debating here – you are what I would consider a troll, just like the person was at the forum I post at.
