Prosperity is the key to generosity and the reason why our country’s poor (defined as under the poverty line) on average have a better standard of living than the AVERAGE European.

We have two major parties who grow government yet liberals and leftist leaders and the press make people believe we have an extreme right Republican party. That would be FAR from the truth. We have seen government grow every year for over 6 decades. All social services, health services, veterans benefits, education spending, etc has grown every year. In Health services there are over 100 programs (I work for one) and liberals like GBA, Andrew, etc will come here and copy and paste text about programs that were cut without realizing that the health services budget has grown and grwon alot. While spending shifts around in the health services it hasn’t been cut in the last 6 decades and the misinformation having liberals believe that it has is right up the ally towards liberal leaders trying to regain power with fear and misinformation.

I was a liberal also. I believed the misinformation. It was a BIG year for me in 1991 when I converted to libertarianism basically. Libertarians want an 80% cut in government. That is too radical. Now I’m a centrist/conservative. I want to see government stop growing for 10 years while the government reprioritizes it’s spending to what the constitution talks about. In 1991 I researched everything visiting the library 3 times a week for a full year studying economics, taxes, environment, racial topis, etc. While I’ve moderated over the years due to more wisdom and experience one thing remains firmly true. That is that liberalism is a disease that is spread by misinformation that continues due to laziness and lack of due diligence. Sure rank and file liberals “care” and are “well-intentioned”, but the results of their solutions would cause more misery, harm and death.

For instance, raising taxes on the wealthy more than the current rates might not add to government revenues than if left alone, and would lower the growth in GDP, and would lead to income gains not being realized as much as they are. It might also lead to lower energy rates which would be good (because an economy that isn’t growing as fast doesn’t need as much energy) but that doesn’t help the larger segment of unemployed much. I’m not talking anything drastic here. It would all be relative to the size of the tax rate hike. And what would be the purpose if government revenue isn’t raised more? To make liberals “feel” good and as if they really “cared”? What liberals have to realize is that conservatives and libertarians “care” also. Liberals don’t corner the market on “compassion” and their “caring” ideas cause more harm than good. It’s better to teach a man to fish than just give him fish.

I would also add, we saw from the air that there were dozens of trucks that went into that facility after the existence of it became public in the press and they moved things out. They dispersed them and took them away. So there may be nothing left. I don’t know that.

Even if they weren’t there it is all intelligence failures that made EVERYONE believe they were there. It wasn’t just Bush and Rummy but the intelligence agencies all around the world.

Anyways. The biggest point is that Rumsfeld actually looks VERY smart for having said 3 years ago in the middle of an invasion some very smart hedge remarks with an “I would also add” statement. Instead of being a know it all he hedged and added that there were trucks moving things out.” Maybe the interpretation should be that he wasn’t heding but being SUPER truthful. FULLY disclosing to the press the problem that our military was facing due to the fact that the “RUSH” to war took 14 months and Saddam had so much time to move things.

The press can go on their negligent tirade or realize that they were a part of the problem and ask themselves whose side are they on anyways.

Let me just say. I actually watched that press conference where the press as usual were needling Rummy to say where the Weapons were. It was 3 years ago. It was the beginning (not the very beginning) of the press’s open engagement of who they thought was the the enemy. I thought at the time that the press was unconcionable and I continue to think they are. They need an education of basic economics, basic military operations, basic government, who draws up war plans (not the president), and a whole hose of other things. They may know how to write. But they sure as heck don’t write about things accurately and they are obvious with their agenda and ignorance.

And it’s so like the left and BDS suffers to fixate on one off the cuff comment made in a TV interview with a flake like Stephanopolus to “prove” that everyone in this administration is lying. All of you, and you know who you are, are so completely obsessed with this that you are completely incapable of moving foward and addressing the issues and concerns of today. You’re like a child who refuses to grow up, which is actually an excellent description of the left.

This does not look like it’s quoted out of context, Rummy clearly indicates that he does know the location of the WMDs even if it’s in the general area.

Maybe someone here knows how to get the official Pentagon transcript to see what he really said, until then it appears that Andrew is correct.

The “quote” in question came during an interview when the US wasn’t even at Baghdad yet. The idiot CNN interviewer kept asking about WMD and why, in the middle of a shooting war/major military operations, they hadn’t found them. Rumsfeld mentioned that he’d seen satellite photos showing trucks leaving one facility and heading to the areas he mentioned. So, he surmised that the WMD would be there rather than where it was. But nooo, the numbnuts in the media, the leftist moonbats, and apparently you insist on taking things out of context, lying, distorting, and then taking these strawmen and burning them at the stake.

Take some time, if your minders at DU and MoveOn will let you demonstrate some semblance of independent thinking, and look up the truth. And take the time to read the translations of the Iraqi documents that are appearing on the net, you’ll see plenty of evidence of Hussein’s illegal weapons programs and collusion/support of terrorists.
