WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Washington banned all U.S. arms sales to Venezuela on Monday, punishing President Hugo Chavez for his ties with Cuba and Iran and for what it believes is his inaction against Colombian guerrillas.

The sanctions against a major U.S. oil supplier come after years of antagonism between the leftist leader and the Bush administration on issues ranging from trade to oil prices that have dragged ties to their worst state in decades.

Despite Venezuela's repeated assertions it works against terrorism, and particularly militants in the Andean region, the United States designated it on Monday as a country considered uncooperative in the U.S. war on terrorism.

Hugo Chavez has continued to undermine US efforts in the War on Terror for far too long. His continued rhetoric shows him to be a an oil-wealthy tyrant spreading his brand of socialism throughout the region. His interference in Nicaraguan elections, and support for Anti Govt Forces in Columbia are prime examples.

OOPS - is it Monday already?

With Tuesday we normally have the weekly "Republican Party will cease to exist in November" stories from the MSM. A Wednesday cannot pass without a "worst economy since the Great Depression" screed. Thursdays tend to be the day for international affairs and are usually reserved for either the "NSA domestic spying scandal" or "We are losing in Iraq".

Fridays we are treated to the gloves-off "Mudsling at the MSM Corral" in which "journalists" compete with each other in an all-out no-holds barred smearfest. The goal: slime any conservative Republican person and/or position as much as possible between 12:01AM and 11:59PM on that day. Anything and anybody is fair game - Iraq, illegal immigration, motherhood - you name it. The winning target (sorted out on Saturdays) becomes the focal point of "Solemn Sunday", in which the MSM airheads pontificate on how said individual/program means the certain death of the Republic sometime before the next weekend rolls around.

And Mondays bring us full circle to "Karl Rove is about to be indicted" again. Such consistency - almost comforting, in a way.

*** ST Public service announcement ***

- For anyone that qualifies under the new Madicare medications program, remember that today, May 15th, is the last day to sign up and avoid penalties in the program costs to you. You can call the Medicare people at the toll free number, 1-800-633-4227, or visit the website at www.medicare.gov. Have your medicare card available to expidite the process. If you have trouble with the automated system, it will automatically connect you to a live agent. They will explain your chioces to you based on your present medication usage.

- There is some talk that Congress is pushing to suspend the penalty clause, but it would be better to get this done than depend on a reprieve.

- Calling this morning, indicated light phone traffic, but a supervisor informed me that due to heavy sign up traffic, their sign up tools are temporarily overwhelmed. But its important to get listed as "called in".

- Once you make contact you will not be subject to late sign up penalties if you simply call and give them your critical information, since the problem is on their end, and merely calling will get you listed as "in time", and a return call to complete the transaction of signing you up as soon as they are able.

- So if you haven't done this and you are elligible, do it right now, today, and don't put it off. Even if you don't have problems now it could be vitally important to you in the future in being able to afford your medicines, particularly if you're on a fixed income.
