BAGHDAD, Iraq – An umbrella group linked to al-Qaida in Iraq claimed Monday that it had kidnapped two American soldiers reported missing south of Baghdad, where 8,000 Iraqi and U.S. troops were conducting a massive search.

The group, called the Mujahedeen Shura Council, also claimed it had kidnapped four Russian diplomats and killed a fifth in Baghdad on June 3.

The message, which could not be authenticated, appeared on an Islamic Web site known for publishing messages from insurgent groups in Iraq. U.S. officials have said they were trying to confirm whether the two soldiers, who disappeared Friday evening following an insurgent attack that also killed a U.S. soldier, were kidnapped.

During the search for the missing Americans, U.S. spokesman Maj. Gen. William Caldwell also said the military killed three suspected insurgents and detained 34 others in fighting that wounded seven U.S. servicemen.

The Web posting said: “Your brothers in the military wing of the Mujahedeen Shura Council kidnapped the two American soldiers near Youssifiya.” It did not identify the soldiers.

The Defense Department identified the missing men as Pfc. Kristian Menchaca, 23, of Houston, and Pfc. Thomas L. Tucker, 25, of Madras, Ore., and the dead soldier as Spc. David J. Babineau, 25, of Springfield, Mass. They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Here’s to praying they are found safe and their captors shown no mercy.

Let us hope that our search teams find these guys soon. Just because this is the way I think, but why during this time of raiding by the coalition, would you not just lay low for abit. In this situation the best defense is not a strong offense. Taking 2 of our boys is going to do nothing but move you to the top of the list for elimination. /shakes head in amazement

How many raids have we had since the death of Zarqawi?? How many terrorists have been captured?? How many have died?? This was a masterful strike. Great Job Ladies and Gentlemen. God Bless you and keep you. Let us pray that these 2 are found quickly protected by the Lord Our God. Let us also pray that this war ends swiftly, and our people can come home the heros they are. – Lorica

This is right in line with their plan to attempt to win by making the press and Democrats wet themselves. This, they know, is the ONLY way they can win, and with pigs like Murtha, and the rest of the moonbat wing of the Democratic party wailing and whining, they know they have a chance with this tactic. If the Dems would just STFU and get behind the war effort, it wouldn’t encourage them to attempt these media stunts, but noooo, the Dems and press have to keep attempting to turn this into another Vietnam in order to hurt Bush and the Republicans and gain power, so this is what results from this kind of pandering. The assertion by Democrats that what they are doing and saying doesn’t encourage the terrorists and have a direct and negative effect on the war effort is total and complete BS, and the Dems know it, but IMO don’t care. Only regaining power matters to them, no matter what the body count.

Maybe it is about time we drop a bomb on one of these mandrassas that produce their leaders. A 500lb hint goes a long ways.

    Tell`em Sev! POS press pukes!

The actual definition of WIN needs to be determined by the dhimmis in no uncertain terms. The traitors hanged or shot, I do not care which, and all aiding and abetting ended, with internment, if they are unable to STFU and get out of the way of accomplishing the mission. By damn, stupid runs deep in that infestation!

How hard is it for them to just do nothing?
