Internet Explorer 7 – I like it

Posted by: Sister Toldjah on June 21, 2006 at 11:32 pm

I just downloaded IE7 and am really liking it. Am having to get used to the way fonts look now (true type?) but it’s cool all in all. Anyone else out there downloaded it yet, and if so – how do you like it? I like the tabs at the top, and I like that I can see my “favicon” up in the browser address field :D

i downloaded a beta version of it a while back. It was good. They listened to people and incorporated a lot of good features into it.

In other news, I figured out how to copy and paste. I just know that you’re proud of me.

  3. Congrats, forest! :)

Karl, I had been wanting to download it, but the requirements were that you had to have XP SP2 downloaded and I was a holdout on that because of all the problems that had existed with XP SP2. I’d tried before and had desktop loading problems with it and decided I wasn’t going to try anymore until I had to. I recently got a notification from Microsoft that after October of this year they would no longer be providing support for SP1. So I bit the bullet and tried SP2 again and that time it worked.

  4. - You probably have SP2 – build 6,323 ST…. Just when they finally get a fair number of the bugs ironed out, not the least of which was they managed to write the most virus vulnerable OS in the histroy of computing, “Vista” came on line last week, and Junior is already up and running with an online version… Don’t cha just love it… The OS derby…

    - One nice feature of Vista, is like the original version of NT, you can set it up to co-exist with SP2, so if chaos ensues you’re still safe…

    - Bang **==

\:d/ Why do I get the distinct impression that someone is patting me on the head? :o

I downloaded it but had to uninstall it because it prevented me from receiving e-mail in my account. “Exploer cannot be read…”

I uninstalled it and I can get my e-mail, but to those who don’t have this problem, the new Explorer seems really great. I loved the features but had to choose between Juno e-mail and the internet.

I actually work at MS for a vender so I got a couple copies of the vista beta this week.

I have beta tested just about everything they have made since 2000.

One funny thing, I neverhad any issues with any of the service packs. But I am also very persnickity about keeping my computers optimized.

Sorry, forest, I was just getting up to go get a cup of coffee. Was that your head?

Sis: I also DL-ed the beta version awhile back. I use the Avant browser (which piggybacks on the IE engine) and prefer it to the IE browser. It has a cleaner, more compact look. I’ts also the first tabbed browser I ever used. :D

I use the IE for a quick browse, the firefox, too. I use my opera browser for downloads – it’s a lot faster, in my experience, than other browsers for that.

I got rid of Netscape long ago. I never liked it. :(

  9. benning says:

Well, gee, Karl, why not send me a copy? LOL:-"

  10. Jim says:

So, from the features you mentioned liking (tabs, favicon, etc.) it’s Firefox-late. :d

  11. Dunno, Jim – I’ve got Firefox on my computer, but only to check from time to time to make sure my blog shows up ok on it (some of my first blogskins here didn’t look right in certain browsers). I never use Firefox for anything other than that. For better or worse, I’ve stayed with IE all these years.

I can’t stand Firefox, but I LOVE Avant browser. Has anyone tried it? It’s excellent. You can open multiple pages, rather like with Microsoft Word.. just click the new page button and it opens and you can navigate from there. Also, after you close it down and get into Avant again, it brings up the past pages you had open when you exited and you have the option to close all or leave open whatever pages you want. It’s a perfect set up for bloggers, in my opinion, because of all the research and necessity for open pages. You can also size the page to whatever % you want, so if someone’s blog is too wide for your screen, you can go to 90%, 87%, 50%, whatever you want, and the page will be resized. You guys should try it. I don’t work for Avant! I do think it’s the best browser for bloggers, though.

  13. benning says:

Amy, I like it so much I donated! I’ve used it for years.

Does IE 7 load any faster? IE 6 takes like five minutes to open up when I first start up my computer.

  15. saus says:

Absolutely, IE7 is fanatastic and as far as beta’s go it has been rock solid for me, but take any beta with a caveat nontheless.

I also only used Firefox to check functionality, I don’t like the interface & I never liked Netscape much.

The open in new tab was so perfectly positioned, by mere habit from IE6 it has replaced the spot where new window was I guess because I don’t even look and a new tab magically appears :d

  16. Baklava says:

    See Dubya

I’m thinking something else is the problem. :)

I have Pentium 3 733 MHz computers that open IE6 in 2 seconds.

But of course I have some pretty clean machines due to security measures I’ve taken.

  17. jaydax says:

I have to say I like IE 7 but it has a few nasties!
Most serious is the fact that Microsoft is using a hidden file that’s not visable unless you type in the pathname. It’s C:\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\antiphishing\ This folder is detected by programs such as Spysweeper as a possible hidden rootkit file. If you use Explorer, even with hidden and System files set to be visable it does not show up. It containd a file which sends information to a Microsoft site to check if a website you are visiting is the real thing.

Now personally I don’t mind Microsoft doing this but I don’t think the file should be ’super super hidden’. It makes me wonder what other files they have hidden away.

I’m not keen on what they have done with the history icon – it’s now two clicks away instead of one. The same is true for the favorites button and it’s Sooo S L O W! In the end I went back to displaying the menus and using Favorites from there.

I do like being able to have more than one home page but they need to fix the bug which prevents you removing an unwanted one (you can remove it but you have to delve into the menus to find the option).

Tabbed browsing? Great – about time.

Printing bug is finally fixed – I find that scaling the page to 80% seems to print everything now.

On the whole – I’ll stick with it and look forward to the final version.
