Weekend open thread

Here ya go …

Update: I’ve been a bit preoccupied today on some other things … will be back to blogging this evening, assuming the storms it looks like we may get don’t knock out the power :)

Sat AM Update: Sorry for the light blogging – I think I’m going to take a weekend hiatus from politics altogether. If a hot news story develops this weekend and I find out about it, I’ll log on to blog but in the meantime, feel free to use the comments section to post about developing weekend stories. I just need a bit of a breather. Have a great weekend.

I once was a liberal in 1991. After doing research 3 times a week for a year that year I converted to conservativism/libertarianism. WHY? Because of research that pointed out things like this

Geraldo on O’Reilly Factor said the President is right to stay the course.

Geraldo slams Kerry and the “pull out NOW” and the “set a date for RETREAT” crowds.

Geraldo then goes on to slam the newspapers and editors.

    Loved it.

    2. Serious post on the unbelievable cartoon that Mike Luckovich published in yesterday’s Atlanta Journal Constitution. If you have any doubts that the Democrats and the mainstream media want America to lose the war on terror, this cartoon will turn you into a believer.

Here’s a little something from Chicagoland that I wanted to present for comment:

Recently, in a dugout interview, World Champion Chicago White Sox (man! that sounds good) manager Ozzie Guillen called Chgo Sun-Times sports writer Jay Marriotti a “fag”. You can imagine the outrage. Ozzie is known for his “say anything” style and he used a similar epithet in introducing a friend of his to others, also in public.

Anyhow, he was duly chastised and his suspension and burning at the stake were called for by local gay leaders. Two newspapers (I only read two) had editorials lauding his public apology to the gay community and poo-pooing his use of such language. He is now supposedly required to pay a fine and attend some sort of BS sensitivity training, as if it will change the guy.

Here’s my problem: first off, I in no way condone or encourage nasty behavior toward the gay community, even considering their agenda is based on nasty behavior. However, isn’t it a little bit much to expect the general public to be so considerate of such a small group of people of whom a large percentage of that general public consider their behavior abnormal, deviant, sinful, etc.? If Ozzie had called Mariotti a slut, would Ozzie have to apologize to promiscuous women everywhere? If he called him a motherf***er, would he then be made to apologize to incestuous Americans? If he just called him a f***er, would he have to apologize to all who engage in intercourse? How about “bastard”? Are all who’s parents never married to be consoled? Seems to me, if he should apologize to anyone, only Marriotti is owed, and he won’t be gettin’ one anytime soon. It also seems that the homosexual community could use a little more thickness in their skin. For the record, it has been confirmed that Guillen does indeed have several gay friends, none of whom were offended.

One more thing, there’s a gay leader in Chicago named Garcia, who has no problem saying foul things about Christians. I don’t recall anyone ever forcing an apology out of him for that. So it is obvious that Guillen should have called Mariotti a lousy Christian or a freakin’ Bible Thumper, because that group of Americans, which in numbers absolutely dwarfs all the gay/les/transgender/bi people, is not protected from hate speech.

  6. Marshall, the double standard on ‘hate speech’ is an acceptable double standard in today’s society – unfortunately. We witness it all the time … think about the things Jesse Jackson, Charlie Rangel, etc have said about white people. Never a cry of outrage from the PC police but if it were turned around on them (or whatever minority) the howls of outrage would be nationwide.

Also, definitions of ‘hate speech’ are another issue. Remember Bill Bennett’s comments about the black community and crime (read more here as a refresher)? The howls of outrage were loud and strong, so much so that the Bush administration released an official condemnation of the remarks. Now if you read them, there was nothing racist about what he said. But Howard Dean apparently thought so, and called Bennett’s remarks “hateful.” Contrast that with the DNC’s reaction to Charlie Rangel comparing the President to Bull Connor. The reaction from Dems? Silence.

    It’s maddening.

  7. - Au contrare’ mon ami … Tis “identity politics” at its worst…..All minority groups need the double standard to protect them from the howling mob majority, don’t cha know…. Just ask a “Progressive”, the self appointed guardians of the oppressed. At least thier votes anyway. For a prime example of that, watch Arrrrnnold, as he manuevers the NG on the border issue here in Cal. Gotta hang onto that hispanic block, no matter what. Victimhood is alive and well in American politics…

  8. sanity says:

ah lets not forget any time your in trouble and your black you whip out that racism card….

Because Lord knows that whatever happens to you has GOT to be racism is someone is calling you out on what you did wrong….

  9. Marshall Art says:

Well, I won’t make comparisons to racism in this case, just as I abhor the comparisons made by leaders of the gay community, mainly because there are none. But I thought this Ozzie Guillen story is another example of the special treatment given to the gay community as a result of such comparisons and other whining. All the while, this “slight” against them is held up as the bigger issue concerning one person fueding with another. When I find myself at odds with someone, the words they use are nowhere near as hurtful as the tone and intent behind them. If I was called a stupid pollack, which in some ways I am, I’d hardly be thinking about how my ancestors have been insulted, since it was so obvious the insult was hurled at me.

At the same time, I am in total agreement with sentiments regarding double standards. Even more so, I find it insanely frustrating that in this day and age, folks are, on the whole, far more sensitive to name calling. What the hell ever happened to “sticks and stones”? It’s a ruse to stir controversy and/or to avoid the real issue of another controversy.

The two young U.S. Soldiers were tortured and slowly-excruciatingly killed, where is the outrage???!!. CNN ran the Abu Graib abuse photos for weeks. They had every “expert” on to “discuss” this outrage?
    LINK

The American Heroes’ private parts were cut off and shoved in their mouths before their heads were slowly sawed off and were allowed to slowly bleed out until death!!!! Where is the outrage of these animals?

This is what we are fighting. I would rather have animals like this flocking to Iraq and Afghanistan to die in “Jihad” rather than be flocking to America.

Based on the U.S. pulling out of Beireut and Somalia Osama Bin Laden, stated in two seperate interviews with CNN and CBS, that their would be “hundreds of holy warriors in America commiting many 9/11s”. Osama did not believe we would bring the war to him.

Osama said 9/11 was “only the beginning”.

United States Civilians and Military were repeatedly attacked during the 1990s and we never responded militarily even though Osama declared war on us:

1993, February WTC terrorist bombing 1500 injured 6 killed. This is how Clinton began his Presidency.LINK

1993 al-Qaeda helps Somalia Islamic Extremists stage attacks on U.S. troops, killing 18 U.S. servicemen, which Osama repeatedly mentions as “VICTORY” for al-Qaeda! LINK

1995 terrorist bombing in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 5 Americans killed.

1996 terrorist bombing of Khobar Towers Saudi Arabia, 200 U.S. Military injured and 19 killed

1998 terrorist bombing of U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, Osama Bin Laden was “indicted” for this act of war. LINK

1998 terrorist bombing of U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, killing 224, Osama Bin Laden was “indicted” for this act of war. LINK

1998 Osama bin Laden indicted by U.S. Court for role in Embassy Bombings, with $5 million bounty offered for bin Laden. Bin Laden had already declared “WAR” on the U.S., but the Clinton Administration treated it as a law enforcement issue rather than WAR.

Later in 2000 the CIA had Osama’s Terror Training Camp on spy drone video and needed approval for an offshore aircraft carrier to launch cruise missiles to kill Osama Bin Laden.

  11. angryamerican says:

But the United States never responded, which emboldened the terrorists into believing they could carry out 9/11 and begin attacking inside America at will.

I am not saying Clinton is at fault for 9/11.
19 al-Qaeda terrorists were reponsible, but we can’t lose our back bone in the Iraq WAR. We are winning.

We brought the war to the terrorists.

Bin Laden never believed we would bring the war to him:

  12. angryamerican says:

BIN LADEN: “We experienced the Americans through our brothers who went into combat against them in Somalia, for example. We found they had no power worthy of mention. There was a huge aura over America — the United States — that terrified people even before they entered combat. Our brothers who were here in Afghanistan tested them, and together with some of the mujahedeen in Somalia, God granted them victory. America exited dragging its tails in failure, defeat, and ruin, caring for nothing.”

“America left faster than anyone expected. It forgot all that tremendous media fanfare about the new world order, that it is the master of that order, and that it does whatever it wants. It forgot all of these propositions, gathered up its army, and withdrew in defeat, thanks be to God.”

Osama then added, “The battle has moved to inside America. We will work to continue this battle, God permitting, until victory or until we meet God before that occurs. ”

He believed that 9/11 was just the beginning and that many suicide bombings would have occured by now inside America.
Osama envisioned the “war” being inside America, but America brought the war to him and now Islamic Extremist Jihadists are flocking to Iraq and Afghanistan to die.
    ————————————————

We have to win in Iraq. al-Qaeda’s #2 Abu Musab al-Zaraqawi personally sawed off American’s and Iraqi’s heads. He was the equivalent to Mohammed Atta, the ring leader of 9/11, but instead Zarqawi went to Iraq to fight “Jihad” rather than come to the United States and plan another 9/11.

This enabled our U.S. Military to send the monster to hell and not be able to plan attacks for inside America, which captured intelligence has shown he was planning attacks for America.

God bless our U.S. Soldiers fighting the evil in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Our American Heroes understand what they are fighting and what they are fighitng for, but do the rest of Americans?? If we pull out of Iraq now we give al-Qaeda another Somalia that they can take over.
Do we want this to happen to Iraq and give Osama another “win” and another country for Islamic Extremist Radicals to base operations??!!!

I would like to know why the U.S. Media ignored this poll of all Iraqis saying that 77% of Iraqis still believe, with all the mistakes, the war still “is worth it”? 98% of Shiites and 91% of Kurds all say the war is still “worth it”.

angryamerican: As a sworn daily enemy of America, I presume your questioning of the US media’s traitorous acts and deeds is rhetorical.

If all these historical revisionists could have their way about just one thing, we could go back to the time when such illicit actions as they (MSM) practice daily with every printing, were punished. If I knew how to link stuff, you would now see a squad of riflemen and a gallows/tree/lightpole.

    angryamerican,
In conjunction with what you have said, I wanted everyone here to see what typical Anti-American crap there is out there. I have been visiting a particular blog to see first hand what these people (Anit American) are like and what they are thinking. I invite each you to visit this blog and if you care, to comment.
The host is an Iranian who lives in Toronto, Canada. He is NOT typical of most Iranians I know (I know many). There are a few true Americans on the site who dispute what he tries to pass off as fact and it is very humorous to see his responses. If you like, please take a look, you will really laugh your butt off.

You Know, getting back to the racism discussion, I find it odd that everytime I hear a Freedomcenter.org commercial, invariably the white guy is the racist. I find it odd that there is no such thing as a black person or oriental or hispanic person that could possibly be racist. Libs, you just gotta love ‘em. Ohhh Hi all, I am back from my vacation. Grandma turned 90 on Sunday and we thought we would drive to Grandma’s house, all 7 hours, and surprise her. It was fun. Missed you all, and I see Bang is making moves on Sis. tsk tsk tsk – Lorica
