With a few exceptions, such as war and national emergencies, I think the government does a far far better job for us the less they do. I'm of the firm belief that just about every law should have a sunset clause that forces the Congress to review and renew it periodically. Face it, most of our problems stem from overregulation, and the fact that our political leaders in Congress feel that unless they're actively passing legislation about something or another, they aren't doing their jobs, or at least don't appear to be doing them. Thus, we get tons of bad legislation that is done to make a name for a politico, or to "send a message" and these are usually more damaging then helpful. It'd be an improvement if we kept Congress mostly occupied with reviewing and voting on old laws rather than trying to make our lives miserable by constantly passing knee jerk, poorly thought out laws and regulations. I'm just thankful we don't get all the government we pay for. Oh, I don’t know.
