I know your post did not focus on Down syndrome, but I find it funny that there is a waiting list (over 200 families deep) waiting to adopt a child WITH Down syndrome. 200 families! There’s a WAITING LIST for people who WANT THESE CHILDREN. And yet most are aborted. If only people knew what a child with Down syndrome can bring into their lives and the world. I should know. I have two adopted daughters who both have a wonderful extra chormosome!

Since I have an autistic son my opinion probably won’t be accepted … however, the Mind Institute at UC Davis is leading the way in autism research and if they can’t find a “cure,” or a “cause” … what makes British medical researchers so sure they’re right? The simple fact is no one knows how, or why people are afflicted with autistism. Some point to the environment, some to immunizations, some to genetics … there are no autistic people on either sides of Erich’s family, yet he was diagnosed with autism, so that leaves out genetics … he was immunized after 2001, so that leaves out the preservative in immunizations … the environment? That would be the only thing left, but there’s no supporting evidence and we have neighbors with children Erich’s age who are typically advancing … so my unscientific finding is that’s not it either.

Additionally, as a spectrum disorder there are a lot of autistics who are so high level functioning you wouldn’t be able to pick an autistic out of a line up! It’s not something you can point to and say, “Look, there goes an autistic.”

Erich is the first known autistic in our family. We have two grandsons who are neuro-typical … would that mean that since Erich’s birth our daughter would have been forced to abort them??

Two final words: It’s disgusting.

Another one of the “glories” of modern science. This actually scares me. I have a son who’s condition falls within the autism spectrum. He’s my pride and joy, but these butcher “scientists” would rather he never be born.
