Obsessions

If Conservative bloggers were posting in 2000 they would have been villifying the junior Senator from CT. Deservedly so too, Lieberman wanted to disenfranchise our fighting men and women. Is that someone conservatives should be supporting?

I think the paper's analysis is shallow and unconvincing. It has an air of "politics as sport" which is unhelpful. If you look at Lieberman's voting record, he's squarely in check with his own party. So why are they mad at him? Simply put, he talks differently -- and that's apparently the danger. But when people focus on the talk and not the action, it's a failure of electoral politics.

I am having a hard time working up too much sympathy for Lieberman. Sure, he has gotten a raw deal from the MSM, and Lamont’s campaign has been vile (in both style and substance, Lamont’s campaign resembles the party of a certain paper-hanger of days gone by). But for years Leiberman basked in the MSM’s approval without ever thinking about where that approval came from – or if it was worth having in the first place. Now he knows what it feels like to be a Republican.

Maybe it would have helped if Joe said, “I believe we must fight and win this war, but not the way Bush does.” Because really, agreeing with Bush about anything is the real sin, isn’t it?
