I agree it’s a non-apology but that’s the best we can expect from Kerry.

He should have apologized right away and meant it not like the lame-o excuse he didn’t even have the guts to deliver in person – he hid behind the written press release. He’s a coward.

Anyhow, apology or no apology at this point it can’t salvage Kerry’s political career, it’s over and his fellow democrats have already turned their backs on him.

Key word in non-apology was misinterpreted, thats not a real apology, thats like saying he is sorry everyone was too dumb to understand what he said and misinterpreded the words.
No kerry, we got what you said as did our soldiers, just like the ones you slandered in Nam and called baby killers.
The picture of the troops holding up the sign was priceless and said it all …. horse face kerry just kissed his 08 chances to hell and people now see how fortunate we all her he LOST IN 04.

I dont like the misinterpreted qualifier, and the bush slam at the end, but the center part:

and I personally apologize to any service member, family member or American who was offended”

Well, it carries some weight with me such that I will grudgingly accept it.

But I still maintain the really “telling” sign is that it took two days to get him to apoloigize in the first place.

John Kerry didn’t apologize. He said:

“I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform and I personally apologize to any service member, family member or American who was offended,”

I don’t believe that a qualifier should be placed in an apology. I am rather partial when it comes to this man, but it seems to me all he said was “Opps, I am sorry you are to stupid to understand what I said.” If he had the 2nd part of his statement without the 1st, I would say about time. But this makes it look like it is my fault he stuck his foot in his mouth. This again shows how little he cares for anyone outside of himself and Terrrazza.

Also why apologize now??? Just yesterday he was blabbing about how he apologizes to NO ONE. Nice sticking to the courage of your convictions John. – Lorica

This part matches my contention:

I should acknowledge an awareness that some people, even conservative people, think Kerry’s boner was an attempted joke about the president that went terribly awry. While I don’t buy this contention and find it to be quite frankly ludicrous, even if we said for the sake of argument that this excuse is the 100% unvarnished truth, this event would still matter.

If Senator Kerry misspoke (as he claims) and in so doing caused great offense (which is undeniable), why can’t he just apologize? Furthermore, why are so many active Democrats so opposed to the notion of Kerry apologizing?

Even now that he has, I still wonder why it took so much to get him to do what I can easily get my 16 year old to do.
