I went to basic training with him. We were in the same platoon. He was the funniest guy in the company. We lost touch after basic but it was fun being around him. He made the drill sgts laugh so hard on a regular basis. I recently got back from Iraq, doing daily missions in blackhawks and I can't imagine what it'd be like to be in the deadly situation he was in. He could have jumped out and saved himself but he reacted to it like a true hero and took one for the team to allow 4 others to live on and pursue their future hopes and ambitions. He is truly the epitome of an American soldier. I'll forever remember our times in training and I'll forever remember McGinnis for his heroic final act.

These men are so brave. Everytime I hear about one of these heroes I get chill bumps ... I take such pride in our outstanding military.
