At least Rev. Al had the good sense to talk with the accuser so he could later claim he believed she was telling the truth.
The DA is supposed to act upon “probable cause,” supported by “oath or affirmation.” If there is no physical evidence to link the accused with the accuser, and the DA claims he did not converse with the accusor, how did he get the indictment past a judge?

I’m guessing that if the case ever does go to trial, Mr. Nifong will not be the one prosecuting it.

Nor should he be.

And in related news: I note that the New York Times, which started its coverage back in the day by referring to She Who Accuses as a “dancer,” and then revised the terminolgoy to “exotic dancer,” has of late decided upon “stripper.” Ho. ho.

I don’t see that Duke University had any choice other than to respond as it did; even if the charges turned out to be false, you just can’t have accused rapists out representing the university. That sucks, but that’s life.

Regrettable as it is to say in this case, had I been the president of Duke, I’d have suspended the players as well, simply because there was no other choice.

Nifong put both feet in quicksand, and any “if I knew then what I know now” talk on his part will just make him sink faster. The North Carolina Bar Association should just pull the plug, as an example to over-zealous prosecutors everywhere.
