I don’t know how “faggot” became a slur, anymore than I know how “gay”, “queer”, or “fairy” became synonymous with homosexual. Frankly, I’m still upset that they’ve commandeered these words and redefined them in the same manner they wish to redefine “marriage”. But even worse, is that they have elevated “faggot” to be on par with “nigger”. There is no area of life that is free of their intrusion, forced acceptance, and now even a special status in the realm of abuse, for Pete’s sake! while whites, Christians and conservatives can by called absolutely anything. Screw it. Skin so thin you can freakin see through it. Wusses.

Although I agree people need to be careful not to overreact, you really need to watch the actual Glenn Beck clip and read the GLAAD release more carefully. Glenn Beck was offensive because he completely downplayed the hate behind the word… mocking the New York Times for not printing it. Beck would have said “the n-word”, not the actual word itself. Why is it different with an anti-gay slur?

I’m with you on this one Kellie. Back in kindergarten we were taught the old “I’m rubber and you’re glue, what you say bounces off me and sticks to you.” Are we now in such a state that kindergarten kids have more sense than adults?

How sad that we even debate these topics. Why must everyone be forced to apologize when an ugly word is uttered against gays, ethnics, poor, etc? The world is getting scarier with its complete lack of tolerance for speech . . . even that said by jerks (as previous writer noted). Did we have this extreme debate when Pelosi called the President ‘incompetent and stupid’? Nope. Again, some people can say what they want. Others are barred. With liberals it changes every day.

In the greatest work of English literature, Lord of the Rings, in the first book, as the Fellowship is about to try the mountain pass known as the Redhorn Gate, Boromir suggests that they take some firewood with them, because a fire might be needed in the extreme cold, and says that they should each take the largest faggot they could carry to burn.

Hey, when LOTR was written (over several years around WW2), a faggot meant a piece of wood! I’m wondering when GLAAD is going to demand that Fellowship of the Ring be edited to remove that.
