It’s written by Dr. Timothy Ball, who is the Chairman of the Natural Resources Stewardship Project, is a Victoria (Canada)-based environmental consultant and a former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg. His creds are impressive, not that that will stop the usual suspects from attacking them.
Make sure to read the whole piece. McQ at QandO has a good analysis of it here.
Here’s more on the gw debate from the Wall Street Journal’s editorial page.

I’m happy to see you and other bloggers talking about this. I’ve been posting items almost daily of late. The hysteria is just too much.
I’m in coastal Connecticut on a tidal cove where my 86 year old mother has lived for 52 years. The cove becomes a mud flat at low tide as it always has (now covered with ice!) twice a day, so where’s the Magic Polar Ice Cap Melting Rising Sea level that AlGore says is arriving? I can set a clock by watching the incoming tide, and it precisely recedes due to the way the Sun and Moon are positioned. There are people that profit from panic, but I’ll never be one of them.
Tom TB, it is BS. Gore was big on the “fact” that the sea levels are rising so fast that Britain has had to build locks on the Thames to stop the flooding. Bull, he conveniently ignores the well proven fact that the mouth of the Thames, and that part of England, are sinking about 8 to 10 times faster than any predicted sea level rise. Go look at the places where they wail about rising sea level, and you’ll find a place where the land is subsiding. And Gore did another wonderful bit of data manipulation, he showed a graph of how many times the locks have had to be closed over a decades long time period, conveniently ignoring that the locks were only constructed a short time ago. No wonder they never closed them in the past, before evil global warming hit, they weren’t even there!
Severian, I wonder whether Al Gore really thinks human beings can control the Earth’s climate, or it’s just a funny job for an ex-VP that has to make a living somehow!
I think that Gore is approaching this the same way he and the rest of the Clintonistas approached everything Tom TB, with cynicism, in a calculated attempt to manipulate the public and opinion in order to boost their own egos and power. I think Gore probably realizes that what humans can do is a flyspeck on the wall compared to the other factors, but why let that get in the way of a good power grab and PR campaign. OTOH, there’s certainly a lot of people who are naive enough to think humans can have an effect in this, and that a minor reduction in what is a 3rd order trace gas in the atmosphere will somehow have magic effects.
So, I guess the real question is where does Gore stand on the Easter Bunny issue?
So, I guess the real question is where does Gore stand on the Easter Bunny issue?
Interesting question, Sev. Since the Easter Bunny brings benefits and someone else pays for it, you’d expect Gore, like any good Democrat, to be in favor of it. OTOH, that ‘Easter’ thing has all those nasty Christian overtones, and you know how those right-wing theocrats are trying to take over the country.
Maybe Gore can be for the Easter Bunny before he’s against him.
Maybe Gore can be for the Easter Bunny before he’s against him.
I invented the Easter Bunny! Easter is really about meeee! Excelsior!
It is an interesting question, and one that’s harder to answer than than you’d think with someone like Gore, Tom TB’s original question that is. On the one hand, Gore and team have demonstrated a definite cynical and Machievellian streak for manipulating law, rules, and public opinion to enhance their own standing and power. On the other hand, Gore comes up with such idiocy as “I invented the Internet!” and “Love Story is a movie about meeee and my wife!” which points to an amazing ability for self delusion and self aggrandizement.
Probably it’s an unholy combination of the two.
According to the AARP magazine I just read, life expectancy has gone from 45 for men and 49 for women in 1907 to 75 for men and 79 for women in 2007. Over that same 100 year span the earth warmed one degree celsius much of it before 1940 just like much of the life expectancy increase…. I’m thinking that 1 degree was good for humans. Plants can grow better! Life thrives better..
Well Bak, if you use the same evidentiary standards the AGW crowd does with CO2, you know, correlation proves causality, then global warming of about 1 deg F has improved human life expectancy 30 years on average. Therefore, for every 1 deg F of temp rise humans will live an additional 30 years. Therefore, if the temp goes up 10 deg we will all live another 300 years more.
I can hardly wait!
Temperatures dropped below zero in Minnesota on Saturday morning and were expected to remain there until sometime Tuesday, the weather service said. By noon Monday, subzero temperatures had blanketed the Minneapolis-St. Paul area for 58 straight hours _ the longest stretch in 11 years.
Thanks Sev….
300 years more of paying taxes….
I will be able to collect SS at what…age 299 in the future?
I quit. I am going to stay home and collect welfare, its much easier to do than going out and working for 250 + years!!!
Dropped below zero in Minnesota?
It’s been (with windchill) below zero for about a week now in SE Michigan. At night it has been getting to 20 BELOW zero.
Can I have that 1 degree warm up now please?
Global Warming as half of Michigan sets their houses on fire to try and keep warm!!!
4 deaths have been attributed to the latest freeze in Minneapolis. Has there been deaths attributed to the 1 degree warming over 100 years???
I’m thinking it’d save lives! As well as extend our lives 30 years we should make CO2 factories (other than our own bodies)…
Still waiting for the Catalytic Converter for the Cow Flatulence…….
OK. Serious article here:
An excerpt from his piece:
Believe it or not, Global Warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science. We are wasting time, energy and trillions of dollars while creating unnecessary fear and consternation over an issue with no scientific justification.
So… for the bob’s of the world who WANT to WASTE trillions of dollars that is required for other better priorites (health, medicine, food, shelter for millions of people that need it), I’d say your perspective is off. You act like there is NO cost and dismiss assertions that an economy growing uses more and more energy. Our prosperity has enabled us to do good for the environent like cutting particulates in the air by HALF in over 30 years and yet we are made to look like a villian because we use energy. Energy is like money – neither are bad – we use energy to have a much better standard of living for our poor than the AVERAGE European. If you question that statistic I’d be glad to show you an article that compares living space and material wealth and obesity rates of people below the poverty line in America with the average European.
Another excerpt:
This entire thing reminds me of the history of medicine, particularly the refusal to believe the germ theory of disease and adopt sanitary precautions back in the late 19th century. I can’t recall the surgeon’s name, but he worked at Boston Hospital. He believed in Pasteur’s germ theory, and was basically ostracized by his peers because, you know, how dare he imply that doctors, those holier than thou gods, were somehow dirty and infecting patients! At the time, more and more surgeries were being performed, the advent of ether and the new chloroform allowed them to do operations they had never imagined in the past, and a lot of times the operation was a success but the patient died due to post op infections.
This surgeon was, fortunately, both obstinate and wealthy enough he didn’t have to go beg the powers that be for money. He setup his own ward in tents in the garden of the hospital, and performed surgeries using antiseptic conditions, and kept his patients in the tents and away from all the other patients and doctors. The result was that he had almost no post op infections, and damned few fatalities, which to most reasonable people would have indicated the truth of the germ theory. How did his peers respond? By attempting to silence him, ostracizing him, talking him down, and by even refusing to allow the hospital to keep records of how many post op infections so that there would be no “proof” ever that he was right.
Hmmmm…sounds kinda familiar doesn’t it?
Larry Elder writes on Global Warming:

Excerpt 2:
Excerpt 3:
Excerpt 4:
These opinions are opinions based on the big picture. Perspectives like this are important to the debate. Climatologists are NOT unanimous in their opinion AND looking at the big picture and understanding how the economy works we can see reason why Hillary-Energy should be opposed with every fiber of our beings.
Seizing profits will make sure there are no profits to be siezed in the future. Profits help a company grow and help more people get employed. Mutual funds all over the country will be affected and the energy sector of the economy will be in ruins as there would be no incentive for ANYBODY to invest in the energy sector…… Capitalism can only work and energy companies (and their employees and research and development) can only thrive if government observes it’s role and doesn’t overreach and seize profits.
BTW, I think it’s obscene that Hillary is worth 20-50 million dollars. That’s not from being paid as a Senator. That’s from 8 million dollar advances for books. What does one person need with 8 million dollars. As Tammy Bruce said on the Laura Ingraham show today the government should seize Hillary’s money so that we can invest it into better Senators. For supposedly being the “smart” woman that Hillary is she shows absolutely NO knowledge of the fact that socialism and communism brings fewer advancements and achievements and the despiriting affect is less investment into such a losing sector (where profits are seized).
Two state climatologists to be removed for not being politically correct on the global warming debate.
More evidence for the Bob’s that he refuses to see. Silencing is going on and not open and free debate.
Now Bak, you know it’s perfectly alright to stomp on the free speech rights of people you disagree with if you’re a leftist.
