Larry Elder writes on Global Warming:

Excerpt 1:

And there's a lot of confusion in this and, you know, at the heart of it, we're talking of a few tenths of a degree change in temperature. None of it in the last eight years, by the way. . .

Excerpt 2:

Then there's Chris Landsea, the scientist who resigned from the IPCC last year, accusing the organization of being "subverted, its neutrality lost." "It is beyond me why my [IPCC] colleagues would utilize the media to push an unsupported agenda that recent hurricane activity has been due to global warming," wrote Landsea. "

Excerpt 3:

The alarmists want the United States to sign on to the Kyoto Protocol. This requires spending gobs of money to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But during the Clinton administration, the Senate voted 95-0 to refuse to ratify the Kyoto accord

Excerpt 4:

Others, like economist Julian Morris, suggest that spending all this money on Kyoto impoverishes the planet with very little gain.

These opinions are opinions based on the big picture. Perspectives like this are important to the debate. Climatologists are NOT unanimous in their opinion AND looking at the big picture and understanding how the economy works we can see reason why Hillary-Energy should be opposed with every fiber of our beings.

Seizing profits will make sure there are no profits to be siezed in the future. Profits help a company grow and help more people get employed. Mutual funds all over the country will be affected and the energy sector of the economy will be in ruins as there would be no incentive for ANYBODY to invest in the energy sector...... Capitalism can only work and energy companies (and their employees and research and development) can only thrive if government observes it's role and doesn't overreach and seize profits.

BTW, I think it's obscene that Hillary is worth 20-50 million dollars. That's not from being paid as a Senator. That's from 8 million dollar advances for books. What does one person need with 8 million dollars. As Tammy Bruce said on the Laura Ingraham show today the government should seize Hillary's money so that we can invest it into better Senators. For supposedly being the "smart" woman that Hillary is she shows absolutely NO knowledge of the fact that socialism and communism brings fewer advancements and achievements and the despiriting affect is less investment into such a losing sector (where profits are seized).

This entire thing reminds me of the history of medicine, particularly the refusal to believe the germ theory of disease and adopt sanitary precautions back in the late 19th century. I can't recall the surgeon's name, but he worked at Boston Hospital. He believed in Pasteur's germ theory, and was basically ostracized by his peers because, you know, how dare he imply that doctors, those holier than thou gods, were somehow dirty and infecting patients! At the time, more and more surgeries were being performed, the advent of ether and the new chloroform allowed them to do operations they had never imagined in the past, and a lot of times the operation was a success but the patient died due to post op infections.

This surgeon was, fortunately, both obstinate and wealthy enough he didn't have to go beg the powers that be for money. He setup his own ward in tents in the garden of the hospital, and performed surgeries using antiseptic conditions, and kept his patients in the tents and away from all the other patients and doctors. The result was that he had almost no post op infections, and damned few fatalities, which to most reasonable people would have indicated the truth of the germ theory. How did his peers respond? By attempting to silence him, ostracizing him, talking him down, and by even refusing to allow the hospital to keep records of how many post op infections so that there would be no "proof" ever that he was right.

Hmmmm...sounds kinda familiar doesn't it? :-?

OK. Serious article here:

But few listen, despite the fact that I was the first Canadian Ph.D. in Climatology and I have an extensive background in climatology, especially the reconstruction of past climates and the impact of climate change on human history and the human condition. Few listen, even though I have a Ph.D, (Doctor of Science) from the University of London, England and was a climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg. For some reason (actually for many), the World is not listening

An excerpt from his piece:
Believe it or not, Global Warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science. We are wasting time, energy and trillions of dollars while creating unnecessary fear and consternation over an issue with no scientific justification.

So... for the bob's of the world who WANT to WASTE trillions of dollars that is required for other better priorites (health, medicine, food, shelter for millions of people that need it), I'd say your perspective is off. You act like there is NO cost and dismiss assertions that an economy growing uses more and more energy. Our prosperity has enabled us to do good for the environent like cutting particulates in the air by HALF in over 30 years and yet we are made to look like a villian because we use energy. Energy is like money - neither are bad - we use energy to have a much better standard of living for our poor than the AVERAGE European. If you question that statistic I'd be glad to show you an article that compares living space and material wealth and obesity rates of people below the poverty line in America with the average European.

4 deaths have been attributed to the latest freeze in Minneapolis. Has there been deaths attributed to the 1 degree warming over 100 years???

I'm thinking it'd save lives! As well as extend our lives 30 years we should make CO2 factories (other than our own bodies)...

Well Bak, if you use the same evidentiary standards the AGW crowd does with CO2, you know, correlation proves causality, then global warming of about 1 deg F has improved human life expectancy 30 years on average. Therefore, for every 1 deg F of temp rise humans will live an additional 30 years. Therefore, if the temp goes up 10 deg we will all live another 300 years more.

I can hardly wait! :-"

According to the AARP magazine I just read, life expectancy has gone from 45 for men and 49 for women in 1907 to 75 for men and 79 for women in 2007. Over that same 100 year span the earth warmed one degree celsius much of it before 1940 just like much of the life expectancy increase.... I'm thinking that 1 degree was good for humans. Plants can grow better! Life thrives better..

According to the AARP magazine I just read, life expectancy has gone from 45 for men and 49 for women in 1907 to 75 for men and 79 for women in 2007. Over that same 100 year span the earth warmed one degree celsius much of it before 1940 just like much of the life expectancy increase…. I’m thinking that 1 degree was good for humans. Plants can grow better! Life thrives better..

Is This Scientist Reputable Senator Kerry?

“Global Warming, as we think we know it, doesn't exist. And I am not the only one trying to make people open up their eyes and see the truth.”

Maybe Gore can be for the Easter Bunny before he's against him. :-?

I invented the Easter Bunny! Easter is really about meeee! Excelsior!

It is an interesting question, and one that's harder to answer than than you'd think with someone like Gore, Tom TB's original question that is. On the one hand, Gore and team have demonstrated a definite cynical and Machievellian streak for manipulating law, rules, and public opinion to enhance their own standing and power. On the other hand, Gore comes up with such idiocy as "I invented the Internet!" and "Love Story is a movie about meeee and my wife!" which points to an amazing ability for self delusion and self aggrandizement.

Probably it's an unholy combination of the two.
