Fox is reporting: Anti-American Cleric Muqtada Al-Sadr Reportedly Flees Iraq for Iran:

WASHINGTON — Anti-American Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has fled his Baghdad stronghold for the friendly confines of Iran’s capital, FOX News can confirm via a senior United States official.

Al-Sadr left Iraq within the past few weeks out of fear for his safety and security and is with family in Tehran, where he has visited before, the official said.

His move comes as coalition forces crack down on the insurgency in Baghdad and ahead of the arrival of 21,500 U.S. troops sent by President George W. Bush to quell sectarian violence.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss U.S. monitoring activities, said fractures in al-Sadr’s political and militia operations may be part of the reason for his departure. The move is not believed to be permanent.

Word of al-Sadr’s departure coincides with an announcement that Iraq will close its borders with Iran and Syria for 72 hours, starting at some point in the next two days, as part of the drive to end the violence that has threatened to divide the capital along sectarian lines.

God bless our troops! Take it to ‘em, ya’ll :)

Gee you just have to wonder how the anti-war extremists are going to spin this. Let’s hope it is on top of their pointy heads. – Lorica

    2. Marshall Art says:

Now how could Muqty-boy think he’d find solace in Iran, of all places?

    3. geezer says:

This just about says all you need to know. Commander in the field buggers off for somewhere safer, leaving his troops to cover his arse.

X-hairs on Iran just got a little bigger.

I’m curious why ST would post this news on her blog. Does she think it is a good thing that mookie is chilling in Tehran getting his corn buttered by one of his wives and getting a check from the Ayatollahs? Doesn’t this guy have an outstanding arrest warrant out on his tail. Why doesn’t the Maliki government demand extradition? I’d like to hear some answers from youse whose support(for reasons I’ll never understand) G.O.P.:)>-

    5. Lorica says:

1st off I would like to address tommy’s last comment. Cuz tommy you would have to stop doing drugs in order to understand why so many of us adults are in the G.O.P.

2nd this is good news cuz he is out of Iraq, and not causing trouble.

3rd, in order to extradite someone, ya gotta know where they actually are. You just can’t throw around papers and look stupid, well unless you are a Dem.

4th Ohhhh I think I am done, I was just on a roll. – Lorica

    6. tommy in nyc says:

Lorica you no#1 reason is something I’m not paying attention to because there is nothing wrong with smoking no# is true I’ll give you credit on that one no#3 the point Iwas trying to make was this sadist should’ve been taken out a long time ago but you know what the 43 Admin and new Iraqi government should do in comparsion to what they actually do accomplish are two totally different things. And no#4 if you are on a roll do you have butter on your pants?:d

    7. PCD says:

      Tommy,

Why don’t we extradite Osama Bin Laden? If you think I’m insinuating something about your reasoning re Al Sadr, I surely am.

    8. American Vet says:

Tommy wants it both ways; he wants to criticize the Bush Admin for not taking him out but had they taken Sadr out, he would be saying Bush made him a martyr causing more Arabs, in particular Iraqis, to become terrorists and kill Americans.
We have all seen this logic from the Dems before and will see it again.

    9. G-Monster says:

      Tommy from NYC,

I defended you a few months back as I thought some of your points to be valid, and you debated in a logical manner, although I did not check your sources at the time.

Today, I have changed my opinion of you and think you are idiot. There are always reasons why or why not to eliminate someone. The first time they had him pinned down, I thought they should have finished him.

The way I see it, Muqtada Al Sadr had a large following and the Iraqi government wanted to bring him into the political spectrum in hopes of keeping peace in the country.

That plan obviously failed, and the Iraqi government at the urging of the U.S. government decided to go after him, and that’s when he ran off.

I think him leaving might be better than catching or killing him, as it shows to those that follow him, that he ran away, and thier fearless leader wasn’t so fearless.

Hopefully a step in the right direction to achieving a unified Iraq. As soon as Iraq is unified you will have less violence, as the people of Iraq can work together to achieve thier goals.

With a unified Iraq, the Iraqi’s can take more control of thier country and we can start to draw down the number of troops in Iraq and bring some of the troops home.

I believe that is the goal we as Americans are trying to achieve.

My understanding is Muqtada isn’t even a real Imam.
He doesn’t have the credentials, but self proclaimed that he does, because his uncle or great grandfather was.

My guess is that the Iranian government funneled money to him to make him powerful because they didn’t have as much control over the other legitimate Imams that they wanted, and Muqtada was willing to do thier dirty work for them.

Just my opinion from what I’ve read.

    10. NC Cop says:

I seem to recall, Tommy, that you were critical of the Iraq war because Maliki wasn’t going after people like Sadr and his militias. Now that he is, and Al Sadr has fled because of the crackdown, you can’t understand why it’s good news.

It seems that no matter what happens you will be critical of it, even if it supports what you were saying a few weeks ago. How sad.

    11. Marshall Art says:

And finally, this # means number. So using the abbreviation “no.” and “#” is redundant. Hope this helps.

    12. tommy in nyc says:

:((:(( all right, alright I’m big enough of a man to admit that I made a mistake in my most reaon comment. Unlike Obama I did not mispeak I’m meant every f——n word I said and the words and my views were incorrect . Long story short is that IU f—-d up. Of course it is a good thing that the Mahdi Army’s influnence is being diminished in the sandbox. Youse dudes on the right need to truly understand that there is real hatred against the 43 Admin. no kidding ST. Real hated. Sometimes ny emotions and anger cloud my judgement in speaking towards others who have different viewpoints which I am sorry for. It doesn’t mean I’ll back down as a lefty:d:d:d BTW I wish ST nothing but success in all aspects of her life

    13. gettin’ started early this morning, eh, tommy? :-?

    14. Baklava says:

We see your hatred Tommy and we see others hatred. We think of it as a disease because it’s not based in truth.

For us Tommy, we simply ‘disagree’ with the president on issues – it doesn’t translate to a nutty hatred. That nutty hatred is more of a reflection on the hater not the president you see.

There is only one person you can control tommy and you FAIL miserably at doing it. Your best adjectives are cusswords, you light up the weed, you state false accusation – yet we don’t “HATE” you.

I just truly wish you’d get help. Sit yourself in a Dr. Phil bootcamp or something. Whatever it takes to gain perspective about accepting what is and controlling yourself better.

    15. Baklava says:

However that happened I meant to only bold the word disagree.

    16. tommy in nyc says:

You know what is truly the most amazing thing Baklava? Is that guys like me aren’t the problem of the world. It’s has over 4 years since I got arrested surivived cancer done aq lot of kind things for a lot of kind people paid over $20,000 a year in taxes since the the start of the 21st century and yet I still catch sh*t. Man maybe I should just get an EU passport and become eurotrash because maybe I am just misunderstood

    17. Baklava says:

Where did I state that YOU were the problem in the world?

Having a flawed perspective and stating false accusations and being filled with hate never made me write that you were the problem in the world, as long as your pot smoking isn’t hurting others (as in you driving a bus full of kids or something like that) the worst your words do is give aid and comfort to the enemy (even though you don’t realize it) but I don’t consider you a non-patriot.

You catch “sh*t” (why can’t you find better adjectives?) because of your perspective and all we are doing is pointing out where you stated something false or hate filled or where we disagree with you.

Let it go, accept what is and realize you can only control your own thoughts – you’ll find that we write and you write and if the only thing you can write is your perspective then all you have left is looking at your perspective as compared to others….

      Improve it. Or not.

    18. tommy in nyc says:

Well you are correct that you never did state that (dudes like me are what’s wrong with America bro) It is as a veteran it really, really pains a person such as myself to be smeared by some(not you)a an unpatriotic, dhhimicrat who are hoping Bin Laden wins in Iraq because we can say nah,na-na nah nnah WE want 43 to lose……………………………………………………………..It does tick me off because that’s the last thing the sane left(which I am a member of regardless on my cannibis use) I am a member of.BTW Off topic youse guys got carried away yesterday with the discussion about global warming it’s my nephew’s problem not mjine take it easy lads and lassies:)>-

    19. Baklava says:

Let it go. Your perspective is smeared disagreed with but maybe that should give you reason to re-consider your perspective.

If it’s based on false accusations then ‘listen’ to that fact and make some changes.

Otherwise grow a backbone – you are not a child – and let it go that people disagree with you.

And if you don’t want us to lose – then get behind a winning strategy. State a positive vision for VICTORY. Leaving is not victory it is a sure loss.

BTW – Your smoking adds CO2 to the atmosphere.

    20. tommy in nyc says:

Well I have a backbone first off and secondly do me a favor and just quit breaking my chops over the fact that I like to smoke………. I’ve have witnessed plently of bar fights but rarely I have seen dudes duke it out of the last j? Get it? I hope so!!!!

    21. Baklava says:

I knew that backbone comment would get ya. :)

And… I was referring to the fact that anything organic that is burned does two things. It puts pollutants in the air and CO2 in the air. It isn’t me that was thinking global warming is a crisis – it was you wasn’t it???

To me, it’s FUNNY ! And oh the irony about the backbone comment and then you being sensitive about it. ;)

    22. tommy in nyc says:

Well Bak while I think there is a problem with globasl warming but in my own admission I really do not have a lot of factsd to back up Al Gore’s argument. I kind of look at this problem as the old cliche goes ……..ignorence is bliss and better to keep your mouth mouth shut and thought of as a fool rather than open it and prove it.

    23. PCD says:

Tommy, Al Gore has opened his mouth often and proven he is not only an idiot, but insane.

    24. Baklava says:

That may apply to me too though I’ve been studying the issue since 1991 and find contradictions in Al Gore’s claim yet he is given sainthood status.

The earth has warmed and cooled 7 times before the industrial age and had more CO2 yet cooler temperatures.

AND TO GET THIS THREAD BACK on topic, did you hear the badgering press core during Bush’s press conference yesterday? I thought Bush made them look pretty silly over and over again. You can see each press conference transcript at the white house web site.

    25. G-Monster says:

      Tommy in NYC,

I apologize for calling you an idiot. I’m not sure what your overall problems are and I always wish everyone the best in life.

It’s just I’ve seen the attitudes of Chris Mathews and Keith Olbermann, and they seem to get off on any setbacks the United States or the President run into on the war on terror.

On the same token, any successes the U.S. or the president have, they want to find a way to take the credit away from the president’s policies, or try and make a success look like a failure.

It looked to me like that was what you were doing, and that is why you angered me. You are definitely not in the same category as the MSNBC clowns, but sometimes statements you make, make me think you are.

    26. Lorica says:

And no#4 if you are on a roll do you have butter on your pants?

As Homer Simpson would say: “Mmmmmm Butter”. =))

Ok Ok, I had alittle bit to drink tonight and I dropped a Perdomo champaign robusto that I had just lit 10 minutes earlier in the snow ruining it. Where the heck is global warming when I needed it most. :( So I am in a state of mourning. :( – Lorica
