Sean hit it on the head. The Dems realize a withdrawal from Iraq would be a disaster, but they can’t support any measures taken to win, due to the current mindset in this country. So what’s a dem to do? They will waste time on useless measures condemning the troop surge that accomplish nothing. Of course, this is in keeping with the traditions of Bill Clinton and watching the polls to determine your policy. That way you maintain a wonderful approval rating. You don’t get anything done, but you maintain a wonderful approval rating.

The last thing the dems want is a positive change in Iraq. They will milk this until next year when the presidential elections start gearing up and use it to try and get a dem in the White House. Look for more useless and wasteful resolutions that accomplish nothing.

The larger question here is, did Pelosi support Murtha because he is for retreat in Iraq, or because he has the appearance of being a crook? With her recent support for Congressman Jefferson, the answer to this is unclear. Nick Kasoff The Thug Report

Great job documenting the Defeatist Party. It’s too bad that even with their electoral victory the Democrats are too scared to overtly declare they want to lose in Iraq. Of course that would require them to have the political courage to accept the consequences for leaving an unstable Iraq. An oil-rich platform for Islamist terrorists to launch attacks wouldn’t play well in the 2008 elections.
