<strong>"just like in the days of Vietnam</strong>" is unpardonable and offensive to all Americans.

And it comes from the same man who insisted BEFORE the elections that Democrats want to win the war in Iraq.

Is THIS what Schumer calls winning?

Meanwhile, Madame Pelosi is running around calling the President to complain about Dick Cheney's rather mild remark about Democrat policy falling in line with Al Queda strategy.

This from the same woman who has called President Bush every name in the book.

Democrats are overstepping the bounds in a HUGE WAY. But you won't get that sense from the lamestream media. They're too busy misrepresenting the British decision to withdraw a PORTION of their forces from the regions in Iraq which are peaceful and meet the conditions for VICTORY laid out by President Bush.

God help us if this cabal of media and Democrats succeed in securing defeat and use it to leverage their election victory in 2008. We'll be stuck with another Carter/Clinton style administration and we will pay for that mistake in bloodshed that will make the Iraq war look like murder row in Philadelphia.

Steve Skubinna,
Thank you for such an excellent post! I have grown so weary of hearing about the glory days of Vietnam, when most of what is now taught isn't even factual. If they were teaching the facts, people would understand that this war is no Vietnam, yet... unless we do pull out and re-create the killing fields.

The left is still proud of what they did to Vietnam. They have no shame, else they would have crawled into a hole and worn sackcloth and ashes after they handed over millions of hapless people to a Stalinist regime. After that, many of them were happy to cheerlead Pol Pot and his murder of a third of Cambodia's populace.

Once could be written up as a mistake, brought about by starry eyed idealism (yeah, they'd like to buy the world a Coke...). This constant pattern over the past three decades of siding with every vicious ideology so long as it sets itself against the West, democracy, freedom, and the US is willful stupidity at best. At worst... well, no, they keep shrilly demanding that we not question their patriotism.

I DARE you, Mister Shumer, to pull Vietnam out of your hat again. Please, please forget that it sent your miserable surrender party into the wilderness.

Politicians make no difference.

We have bought into the Military Industrial Complex (MIC) ever since we took on Russia in the Cold WAR.

Through a combination of public apathy and threats by the MIC we have let the SYSTEM get too large. It is now a SYSTEMIC problem and the SYSTEM is out of control.

I am a 2 tour Vietnam Veteran who recently retired after 36 years of working in the Defense Industrial Complex on many of the weapons systems being used by our forces as we speak.

There is no conspiracy. The SYSTEM has gotten so big that those who make it up and run it day to day in industry and government simply are perpetuating their existance.

The politicians rely on them for details and recommendations because they cannot possibly grasp the nuances of the environment and the BIG SYSTEM.

So, the system has to go bust and then be re-scaled, fixed and re-designed to run efficiently and prudently, just like any other big machine that runs poorly or becomes obsolete or dangerous.

This situation will right itself through trauma. I see a government ENRON on the horizon, with an associated house cleaning.

The next president will come and go along with his appointees and politicos. The event to watch is the collapse of the MIC.

No. Schumer thinks this is what the dems will do. Their crap is not polling well, and dems are all about polling. And the surge is working.

These people will be scurrying to "right" their message. Not right away, no elections on the horizon. But soon enough.

> The appeasement party of McGovern has returned full force.

This is a wonderful thing. Remember how many states McGovern won?

What is this "blocking debate" crap? The cloture vote is meant to end debate. What was blocked was another stupid resolution with no teeth designed to undermine the military.

Maybe the GOP ought to apply the Dems' Slow Bleed tactics to Liberal iconic programs. Tell the Dems that the GOP supports these programs like the Dems support the troops. Let the howling begin.
