When did NASCAR become our polarizing element? Truthfully, we've created this invisible line on one side of which are NASCAR fans (falsely potrayed as country rednecks) and on the other is some image of the eastern 'liberal' (a term which does not mean what we act like it means). I am starting to see a pattern forming here. Prior to any major election these pointless lines are drawn and given the majority of our attention while the true issues at play are avoided. Consider reading a fiction novel by Bruce Sterling called Distraction. We are being distracted from the issues that should be important to us. we are being distracted from the obvious similarities between the parties and the blatant exclusionary and divisive nature of a binary system.

I love how we are all Americans when threatened by something outside of our borders yet inside our borders we still fall back to the divisions we had when our country was formed. The NASCAR allegory is just another way of bringing forward an older symbol of a different group, one that was painted on top of the General Lee. That may not be what NASCAR actually is but that is what NASCAR is being made to represent by the pundits.
