Heard he is getting Secret Service protection while he is running for Prez, ah, my tax dollars at work going to protect a dem.

Drewsmom, using taxpayer money to protect politicians from the harm they face as a result of their higher-than-average profiles shouldn’t bother anyone, no matter their political stripe. I don’t object to it when it’s used to protect Democrats and nor do I do so when it’s used to protect Republicans, and I don’t think you should either.

Sure, chuckg99, because it’d be really stupid to categorize a politician just because of how he votes. That’d be as dumb as making a judgment about somebody because of what he says, right? Or, God forbid, based on what he does?

Conservatives also might find it interesting that Obama roundly condemns many of the well-intended (but poorly conceived) liberal-entitlement programs of the 60’s and 70’s in “The Audacity of Hope”. Those who characterize his views as far-left simply on the basis of his voting record, without examining the reasoning behind his choices (which he articulates quite well in Audacity) might be surprised at what’s “under the hood”.

Point well taken however, anything Obama says about the black community, will be publicized in mass because he’s for the first time ever, a top Presidential candidate. I don’t think it matters that he’s not a conservative as to why this is all over the news. Yes, we all know the former black candidates from the past and the prominent figures you mentioned but none have raised 25 Million+ dollars by the first Presidential Debate. I echo your sentiments, I’m glad he’s making it known. If you are a teen psychologically preventing yourself from getting better grades for fear of ridicule, it’s a dangerous, dangerous thing. I’ve seen and went through it myself. So even if Barack doesn’t become president…keep talking Barack, please keep talking!!

Exactly so. And of course it’s significant when a presidential candidate speaks unpleasant truths, and the Washington Post was right to pick this up. Then, too, it matters little what the small band of black Republicans have to say about an issue, when 90% of the black community (or at least that part which bothers to vote at all) votes Democratic. When a Democratic candidate says this, it’s news.
