The donations are down so drastically that the RNC fired the entire staff of phone solicitors. But here’s the money quote, from one of the fired staffers:

“Everyone donor in 50 states we reached has been angry, especially in the last month and a half, and for 99 percent of them immigration is the No. 1 issue,” said the former employee.

So the message is finally getting through to the party chieftains, right? Well, not exactly…

The RNC spokeswoman denied that the committee has seen any drop-off in contributions.
“Any assertion that overall donations have gone down is patently false,” Miss Schmitt said. “We continue to out raise our Democrat counterpart by a substantive amount (nearly double).”

Translation: screw the average GOP voter…we’re going to do it the way the Dems do it: a few big contributors. All we need to do is find a Republican George Soros, and we can ignore the base even more than we do now.

What they’re forgetting is that all those small donors they’re willing to brush aside also vote. Or, as happened last year, decide not to vote.

My surgery went well today. The surgeon did find a neuroma and said that he removed it. That should help my physical test tremendously. I’ll be off my “feet” for a few days, 10-14, but then I’ll be back in training!
