I suspect that like the typical sports depicted as non-contagiens for addictive viewing, (table tennis comes to mind) unless ones involvement in it were to have preceded it’s watching of it, the *Slow Sports* like curling, yacht racing and golf shall always have a cross to bear.

Oh, I dunno about soccer–it can get interesting when Brandi Chastain is playing.

But to get semi-serious for a moment: the way to watch soccer is with the sound off and with your CD player on, with headphones clamped on. Recommended soundtracks: Diana Kraal, Heather Nova, KT Tunstall.

Of course, if you’re a Cub fan, there hasn’t been much excitement for the past 100 years or so. Yankee fans might have a different view.

Well, I would love to see a series between the Cubs and the Yankees. I think the last time that happened was back when Babe Ruth was playing, and Ruth pointed to the stands where he was going to hit a home run, and then hit one right to where he’d pointed.

Thanks for the laughs GWR – and on that note, isn’t it always funny when alarmists immediately attack the credibility of skeptics by saying “so and so isn’t a scientist, climatologist, meteorologist” etc etc but ignore the fact that, well, Al Gore isn’t either?

This is priceless: guess what grades the Goracle got in Natural Science courses in college?

Gore’s college grades were not anything to write home about:

Which explains why he’s never willing to debate anyone on the issue. Real scientists who actually know the subject would make him look even more foolish than he already does.

Of course, that won’t have any effect on the adherents of the First Church of Global Warming and Discount Carbon Credits Outlet. Usually, it takes careful therapy and reprogramming to break someone away from a cult.

Hey; baseball’s the perfect spectator sport, especially live. Where else can you get away with ogling fine specimens of the opposite sex for 2:45 of the average 3-hour game while sobering up from the pre-game tailgate (in years past, I would’ve said “while getting drunk”, but with $6 beers, that’s not doable).

Related to going Wi-Fi, my canoe outfitter has a post on how cell phones are starting to make their way into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Gillis Lake is about 5 1/2 miles into the wilderness from the Gunflint Trail (the road into the BWCAW from Grand Marais) as the cell signals fly, I suspect that the relative lack of trees (due to fires in the area both last year and this year) help the reception, and as best as I can determine, only Verizon offers service anywhere in the region, but it still is disconcerting.
