I read in the English press that the "Live Earth" concert attracted a third of the TV viewers that watched the memorial concert to the late Princess Di. The same excessive life-styles, limos and jets of the music stars, so the only thing I can figure is that audiences prefer not to be preached to!

It's not totally clear that "hyping climate change" is in GE's best interest. True, the company could make lots of money selling windpower, efficient locomotives, nuclear plants, and most especially its spiffy combined-cycle turbines. But GE also participates in the broad economy, and anything that slows global economic growth--or even sends it into a tailspin--can not be made up for by sales of "green" products. Nor would GE be a beneficiary of increasing hostility toward technology in general.

Even if GE has somehow concluded that tight regulations on carbon emissions are in its best interest, and its senior executives also honestly believe this position to be consistent with their duty as citizens, then it was still unwise for them to give this amount of positive coverage to "live earth"...because this *is* a political matter and because these events are clearly a nexus of left-wing opinion which will be very destructive of the entire society should it gain ascendancy.

(Disclosure: I'm a GE stockholder)
