Republican Governor Vetoes Bill To Provide Fertility Treatments To Unmarried Couples

Boy, I’ll just bet the left will be howling mad over this one:

Rhode Island Gov. Don Carcieri has vetoed a bill requiring health insurers to cover infertility treatments for unmarried people, saying they shouldn’t be forced to subsidize out-of-wedlock births.

The Republican governor, who opposes same-sex marriage and civil unions, warned that eliminating the marriage restriction would also drive up health care costs.

“As a matter of public policy, the state should be encouraging the birth of children to two-parent families, not the reverse,” he said in a written statement Thursday announcing his Wednesday veto.

You just know that there would be a case arise out of this where someone would make use of this program, get pregnant, her and her partner have a falling out, and the next thing you know, she’s at an abortion clinic to get rid of it.

I guess to Democrats, that’s a win-win situation, though…especially if they can get her to repeat it over and over again.

Update: Just had an even “better” thought: they break up before she actually gets pregnant and she then donates her fertilized embryo(s) to a stem cell research laboratory. Ooooh!

Both are dark and horrible thoughts Dear. This govenor did the right thing. Why should the taxpayer have to pay for this sort of thing?? What next test tube babies for lesbians?? – Lorica

That was my point, that Dems don’t stop and think about stuff like that, whereas we do. And you’re right…the governor was 100% correct to veto this. But mark my words, it won’t be the last we hear of it.

Sorry for calling you Dear by the way Brian. I didn’t get to Sis’ post about not being in today until after I posted this. :o) – Lorica

Believe me, after some of the things I’ve been called in my “blog career”, I’ll take “dear” any day of the week. :d

    No apology necessary.

Well I don’t want your wife to get jealous by my error. =)) – Lorica

I am not saying that the Governor did the wrong thing, the people of Rhode Island can decide that, but it is highly unlikely that someone would use their insurance to get fertility treatments and then get an abortion, whatever their domestic situation might be.

You underestimate people. If it was free to them to begin with, they won’t think twice about it.

Look at how Katrina victims treated those trailers they were given. They trashed them. Why? Well, they didn’t pay for them, so why should they take care of them?

It’s kind of the same thing here: they’d go get the treatment done and, if for some reason the relationship went south, they wouldn’t think twice about aborting it. Because they didn’t pay the $20k to have it done, they’re not out anything, so they could care less. And after all, they can always meet a new partner and have it done again.

I’m just saying, you just know that sooner or later, it will happen.
