Here come the but---I was quite involved in a campaign for a congressman that almost foundered due to the interference of his wife. She was a nice lady but for a large number of reasons caused staffers and volunteers to weigh their decision to continue working for the candidate whom they loved and respected. The campaign manager finally got through to the candidate and his spouse in time to get things back on track. I know that the media and others who tend to benefit from this type of dissention are hyping the heck out of maybe nothing but any further support or donation from me will depend on a clear presentation of the Thompson platform and my confidence that his campaign is well run. However this turns out, I will vote Republican regardless of who wins the primary. I was an early supporter of Fred Thompson. ( Consider any election in the past twenty years. ) AND Abraham isn't running, Fred is, and he's made his position on illegal aliens well known to any reasonable person that has actually bothered to look for it. ( Besides, if Abraham proves himself an idiot, Jeri will cut him off at the knees...It was nice to have a real First Lady in Laura and it will also be nice to have a strong and politically wise one without the manipulations and abuse of power we've seen before. ) Unlike other candidates, Fred has proven he understands when circumstances change and where mistakes were made...a very refreshing and welcome change from the egotistical elitists.
