The NYT reports that so-called “minorities” are now the majority in 1 in 10 counties in the US:
In a further sign of the United States’ growing diversity, nonwhites now make up a majority in almost one-third of the most-populous counties in the country and in nearly one in 10 of all 3,100 counties, according to an analysis of census results to be released today.
The shift reflects the growing dispersal of immigrants and the suburbanization of blacks and Hispanics pursuing jobs generated by whites moving to the fringes of metropolitan areas.
From July 1, 2005, to July 1, 2006, metropolitan Chicago edged out Honolulu in Asian population, and Washington inched ahead of El Paso in the number of Hispanic residents. In black population, Houston overtook Los Angeles.
“The new wave of immigration, along with its continued dispersal to the suburbs and Sun Belt, is transforming the places which are now being classified as multiethnic and majority minority” said William H. Frey, a demographer with the Brookings Institution.
“The new melting pots are not large international gateways” Professor Frey said, adding, “Rather, many are fast-growing suburbs themselves.”
In 36 counties with more than 500,000 residents each, non-Hispanic whites are now a minority, up from 29 counties of that size in 2000.
From 2005 to 2006 alone, eight other mostly less-populous counties shifted to a majority of minorities, the Census Bureau said. They were Denver, Colo.; East Baton Rouge Parish, La.; Winkler, Waller and Wharton in Texas; Blaine, Mont.; Colfax, N.M.; and Manassas Park, Va., an independent city that is considered the equivalent of a county.
Hmmm. Ok, so like does this mean white people will soon have ‘special rights’?
On a related note, the GOP is hoping that the growing Hispanic population will increase their chances of winning some Congressional seats next year.

It’s notable that while we tend to make a fuss over skin color and constantly divide ourselves along racial and ethnic lines, one group continues to see us all as just “Americans”.
That group, unfortunately, is the Islamofascists, who would happily kill every one of us without regard to race or ethnic background.
Too bad we have a hard time seeing what we as Americans have in common, when our most dangerous enemy can see it all too clearly.

On another note, if I’m a minority, I’d like 1.2 million to set up my own bakery. I only ask for the odd figure of 1.2 million dollars as that would match the federal funds given to “your black muslim bakery”

“Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums and Rep. Barbara Lee of Oakland found themselves in the unwelcome spotlight this week over the letters of support they wrote on behalf of the notorious Your Black Muslim Bakery, but they aren’t the only politicos who have supported the group over the years.
At the height of its power back in 1996, the splinter Muslim group – whose members were implicated in last week’s slaying of newspaper editor Chauncey Bailey – got the city to approve an advance on a $1.2 million federal redevelopment loan to launch training program for health care jobs.
Within three months, the group had burned through $275,000 without turning out a single graduate.
They did, however, spend $650 a month to lease a Cadillac.
Another $44,000 supposedly went to consulting fees, $10,500 went for security and $7,500 for advertising on a local cable station, where then-leader Yusuf Bey had a weekly TV show.
When asked to explain what was going on, the Black Muslim Bakery cadre – in one of their typical tactics – marched in unison from the bakery to City Hall, then entered the council chambers like a precision drill team, lining up along the room’s back walls.
They then asked for another $70,000 to keep the project going.
And they got it, with the council voting 6-2 to grant the funds – minus the money for the Cadillac.
“The message was very clear – we are watching you” said City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente, who cast one of the votes against the group’s request.
The school never opened.
And the loan – one of several the council made that year to help disadvantaged businesses – was never repaid.”

I think this has been the case for sometime. In fact in the southwest in states like New Mexico Anglos have not been a majority for sometime, if ever. In Oklahoma where I grew up there were always Indians, blacks, hispanics, etc.
