Rudy's endearing quality is that he's a fighter, and I honestly believe (if he got the nod) -he'd stick it to our enemies. That being said, he's not nearly conservative enough to suit me, and like a lot of others, I don't buy his NRA jive.

All the same, I don't see Rudy (as president) rushing to pass new gun grabbing legislation, either. It's a polarizing issue, and there's no incentive for him to do that. Especially when he'll have REAL problems to deal with.

The two front running Dem opponents, however, are another matter entirely. They'd enjoy armed security around them, while denying individual citizens their own stand off weapons... <):)

I don't think Rudy has changed his position, notice how anti-gunnies leave out the word "keep" from the 2nd Amendment; that would be like rewriting the 1st to say Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of the press, but can determine who can and can't own the equipment to publish a newspaper!

Giuliani and guns

Don Surber welcomes Hizzoner's conversion; Sister Toldjah remains to be convinced (disclaimer; and see quote from me here; our page on firearms litigation and regulation)....

ST:
Greetings this weekend from Huntersville, NC...

Very good post. Like Surber, I grew up in a place where the only people who had guns were the cops and the robbers. And, as he notes, someone who has grown up in that environment can sympathize with the gun control argument, as I have at various points.

I haven't fired a gun before, I haven't even held a gun before, and (maybe that's why) I don't like them. But my distaste for guns is superceded by my committment to the Constitution and Bill of Rights. We have a right to bear arms. It didn't take 9/11 for me to change my views.

As for Giuliani, I don't really care about his stance on gun control, quite frankly. I care whether he can beat Hillary...
