The Dems (historically seen as very weak on national defense) are being told they’ve gone much too far by their own focus/polling groups. That the voters will make their exasperation and displeasure known upon them then next time out. Ergo the 180, with predictable spin being enabled by the MSM.

It’s illustrative of the problem that is the Democrat party that they are concerned with “appearing” soft on defense and terrorism, not with “being” soft on defense and terrorism. That’s what happens when you live and die by the polls and don’t really have strong principles that put the US above politics, you become more worried about appearances and how you look than you do over whether or not you’re damaging the country you owe your life to.

The problem is often endemic to politicians in general, but it’s epidemic in the Democrats.
