School To Hand Out Birth Control

(I’m filling in for ST the next few days. You can read more of my work at my blog, Liberty Pundit.)

This is just ridiculous on so many levels:

In a 7-to-2 vote, the Portland School Committee has approved a proposal to offer a full array of birth control options — including birth control pills — to students at King Middle School.

At a the meeting Wednesday night, a vast majority of parents spoke out against the proposal.

The plan, offered by city health officials, makes King Middle School the first middle school in Maine to make a full range of contraception available to students in grades 6 through 8, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services.

There are no national figures on how many middle schools, where most students range in age from 11 to 13, provide such services.

Chairman John Coynie voted against it, saying he felt providing the birth control was a parental responsibility. The other no vote came from Ben Meiklejohn, who said the consent form does not clearly define the services being offered.

“Parental responsibility?” Who does this guy think he is? =)

You know, fifty years ago, what this guy said would be looked at as common sense. Today, it’s looked at as being a prude or whatever you want to call it. Of COURSE it’s the parent’s responsibility, not the schools.

These pointy-headed libs hand out condoms, birth control pills, etc., all while saying “well, they’re going to do it anyway.” But the only reason “they’re going to do it anyway” is because liberals like them have told them, basically, that it’s ok to go ahead and do it. Handing out condoms and birth control pills like candy at an Oktoberfest parade certainly tells them it’s ok, doesn’t it?

I’ve said it time and time again but, to me, birth control isn’t about religion or about morality (it is to a certain extent, don’t get me wrong, but not exclusively). It’s about health and safety. You hand these kids birth control and give them the notion that it’s ok to use it, you’re taking an awful risk. With the kinds of STDs and life-threatening diseases out there today, it’s a death sentence to do so. It’s like playing Russian roulette. Sooner or later, these kids are going to find the chamber with the “bullet” in it, if you know what I mean.
