As a writer myself I find it alarming that other journalists think they have no responsibility in their reporting. You would think to find this in the Enquirer and not "reputable" news sources. Perhaps we need to draft and activate an oath such as legal and medical professionals must swear to before a press pass will be issued! What a shame that a moral compass isn't enough anymore. Sensationalism rules the writer anymore. I just recently discovered your site so thank you for your honesty!

It isn't just the mainstream media that is at fault here. I think the activist blogsphere seized upon what was only a tangentially reported story in the MSM. Bloggers who had an activist perspective looked at the story, read "nooses" as threats of lynching, read "manslaughter charges against a group of underage black youths" as a sigh of heavy-handed, unfair justice from the still-bigoted deep south.

This is an example of the MSM and activist shakedown artists picking up on a narrative thread in the blogsphere, and running with it.
