Game one between the Rockies and the BoSox will be starting in just a few minutes. The series is being broadcast on Fox.
Ok, which team are ya’ll rooting for? I don’t really have a dog in this fight, but am pulling for the Rockies just because they’ve never won a series. And, of course, it doesn’t hurt that Christianity holds a special place within the Rockies organization (h/t: ST reader GWR)
.
Update: Oh, I love how they had John Williams conducting the orchestra’s playing of the Star Spangled Banner (was that the Boston Symphony Orchestra? I didn’t catch all the introductions). Awesome! Hope to see video of that on YouTube soon.

That wasn’t a good start. Leadoff homer for the BoSox.
Oh, and Let’s Go Rockies (partly because I’ve always disliked the BoSox, partly because Milwaukee’s an NL town now).
I’m trying to remember this isn’t my usual sports open-thread haunt, TheWisconsinSportsBar.
Bad news; after 1 complete, it’s 3-0 BoSox. The good, the rain’s coming down pretty good, so I’m expecting the tarp on the other side of the break.
This is why I hate the extended playoffs; those guys shouldn’t be out there in that rain.
After 4 straight strikeouts by Beckett (1 short of the WS record to start a game), finally a Fenway double for the Rockies. Hooray Green Monster.
Hey steve!
Finally, the Rockies score one.
I probably won’t be here the entire game. I’m on 2 open threads and am working up a couple (more) posts on the budget fiasco up here in Wisconsin.
At least I’ve got baseball to distract me from that.
Guess the rain isn’t as bad as it looks on TV. A guy who’s about a mile out from Fenway (and hates the Sox) says it’s just a light drizzle.
And as I post that, it’s picked up.
After 2 complete, it’s 4-1 BoSox.
As a Yankee fan, it is ingrained into my DNA that I cannot root for the Sox, however, I don’t think that the Rockies stand much of a chance. Don’t misunderstand me, I hope they do win, but I think the Sox are firing on all cylinders right now.
In other news, has anyone seen this:
Brit Hume report
The first story, as it pertains to baseball is pretty interesting. It seems that the NY media is letting Rudy have it for saying that he is pulling for the Red Sox, see what I mean about Yankee fans.
However, the last story is the best:
This is my favorite part:
Interesting…apparently the aliens don’t want Kucinich either. Perhaps there is intelligent life out there……
Outstanding, NC Cop.
Can anyone tell me that this game would continue to be played if we didn’t have the overextended playoffs and the game needed to be played in the rain in a vain attempt to avoid the snow later in the series?
Still 4-1 Sox after 3.
steve, what do you mean by “overextended playoffs”?
Take your pick from the wild-card round and the extension of the LCS from 5 games to 7. You could also count the numerous off-days built into the schedule so Fox doesn’t have to go up against stronger prime-time competition.
We’re edging closer to the official game mark of 5 innings (4 1/2 if the home team is leading). After 3 1/2, it’s still 4-1 BoSox.
To be fair to Selig, that LCS extension came in the 1980s. Fortunately, it wasn’t before the Brewers won the ALCS in 1982 (we wuz robbed in the World Series).
Ahh. Ok, thanks for the explanation.
I hope they keep playing, but if Boston is anything like Charlotte, NC, they need the rain. Getting a bit of rain tonight here, thank goodness.
May it rain, especially since you got some good foliage pics.
I almost dragged the camera along to Madison today (it’s a rather bulky, but high-quality) FujiFilm S700 with the intention of going through the Kettle Morraine State Forest on the way back.
next time, please do take it with you and post some pix on your blog – if you do, let me know and I’ll link up to them.
The weather isn’t looking great for the start of the weekend (rain from Thursday night through Saturday), but if the leaves haven’t all fallen off by Sunday, I’ll take that road trip.
After 4 complete, it’s 6-1 Sox. 3, er, 2 outs until this becomes an official game, unless the Rockies can come up with at least 5 runs.
Guess the umps can call it on the next shower; we’re now in the bottom of the 5th, and the score hasn’t changed any.
Bummer.
Why are my Cubbies not still playing? 99 years since their last World Series championship … and counting.
Still – I guess that anyone can have a bad century. Or two.
Cubs get swept by Arizona. Arizona gets swept by Rockies. Rockies get swept (maybe) by Bosox. Tells you all you need to know about where the Cubbies stand.
WAY off-topic: I am reading When Chicago Ruled Baseball. It is the story of the 1906 Cubs-White Sox World Series. Very enjoyable – except for the ending!
Well, the world isn’t supposed to end just yet
I’m done extra-crispy, as it’s been a long day and I still have some reading to get done. See you all later.
See ya later, steve.
Hey MD! I would have liked to have seen the Cubs in the series this year, simply due to the fact that I have so many friends who are long-suffering Cubs fans.
Check out the Bible, ST. Job was the very first Cubs fan:
Let the day perish wherin I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.
Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.
Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.
For they have sent away Greg Maddux; yea, even Lou Brock has joined with the godless heathen forces of utter darkness in the evil empire called the St. Louis Cardinals.
(The last line is not in the Bible. But it should be.)
LOL …
Steve,
Harvey should have pitched Haas instead of Caldwell on 3 days rest for game 6 of the 82 series.
Selig killed the Brew Crew by firing Harvey and not signing people because they cost too much.
The highlight was definitely John Williams’s arrangement of the anthem. I didn’t think there was much left to be done with it, but he proved me wrong.
The rain didn’t seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the fans from “Red Sox Nation” did it?
By the way: In the postseason, the umpire crew chief, in this case Ed Montague, has to consult with the Commissioner’s office, through ump. supervisor Steve Palermo, before he can order the tarp to come out. I mean, Ed’s only been doing this for a mere 32 years, so how could he possibly have the experience to know when to put the tarp out?
Note, too, that this year the series starts Wednesdays, with off days on Fridays (when viewership is low) and Tuesday. Curiously, they’ll be up against Monday Night Football if there’s a game five, although there is no football game Sunday night.
Why? On Mondays Fox has the new, and low-rated, “K Ville” and the declining “Prison Break.” On Tuesdays, it’s “Bones” and “House,” their two top-rated shows during the non-”Idol” portion of their broadcasting schedule.
(Aside to “Bones” fans–according to the promo I saw, it’s a Halloween episode on Tuesday–Brennan’s in a Wonder Woman costume in the promo.)
I’m rooting for the Cincinnati Reds!
I have no rooting interest here. But Manny Ramirez is my favorite player… Manny being Manny.. just looks like a complete mess – pine tar all over the helmet, dreads flying around, baggy uniform.. and all he does is rake. My kind of player!
