It's pretty straightforward. Liberals love children and want everyone to feel happy and be nice. Conservatives hate everybody and everthing and want to destroy the world.

Me, I'm just a contrarian, so put firmly in the "destroy the world" category. Oh yeah, and hatehatehate.

zak822,

Like what? Listening to terrorists' conversations and those who would make war or terrorist acts upon the US and its citizens are fair game.

Dr. D said: "These are areas that are not at all within its scope according to the Constitution..."

Dr., did you raise this complaint when the GOP led White House and Congress exceeded the scope of the Constitution? Or are you another of the crowd that only complains when Democrats take Federal actions that are not among the powers mandated in the Constitution?

There is no reason for a conservative not to claim social security payments. This is our money, paid into this system over many years (should I say taken from us?) and simply being returned (with some interest, I hope). There is every reason for a conservative to object to extending SS to those who have not paid into the system.

There are many areas where we should definitely not let the federal government try to solve our problems. It is probably the worst possible choice for things like health care, welfare, education, etc. These are areas that are not at all within its scope according to the Constitution, and therefore they are the responsibilities of the States and the local governments to deal with as they see fit. Not all States will deal with each problem in the same way, but there is no requirement that they do so. Each is permitted to make its own decisions in this regard. It is definitely time for us to go back to individual responsibility and away from cradle to grave socialism as we are now tending toward.

One person's entitlement is another person's pork barrel. People should just say no, to government help unless they really need it. What has government dependency done other than create inequality.
