More evidence that AQ is on the run in Iraq:

Ex-insurgents and al-Qaeda battle

Sunni former insurgents asked U.S. forces to stay away, then ambushed members of al-Qaeda in Iraq, killing 18 in a battle that raged for hours north of Baghdad, an ex-insurgent leader and Iraqi police said yesterday.

So rather than simply notify the Americans, the Sunnis essentially said, “Please, let us kill the SOBs this time.”

The leftists will have to work overtime to come up with a way to spin that one as a defeat for our side.

I predict the left will spin this as more “chaos” in Iraq and that it only proves that Iraq is slipping toward a “civil war”.

GWR: Maybe they wanted to get the goods on AQ’s other rat bastages without playing nice and getting a boatload of other innocents wasted while abiding by some code of which AQ and the terrorist pukes have no respect for. Whadda ya bet they were begging for some intervention from some of America’s finest.
