Maybe the intelligence bureacracy has just gotten too large (like the government itself) to be effective. I don’t carry any water for President Bush, and it is true we only hear about intelligence failures, or screw ups. But the way that our intel apparatus seems to have failed the President, especially with the NIE on Iran. Is a disservice to us as well as him.

It seems that there’s a civil war between the CIA and the administration. First we have the “oops, never mind!” memo about Iran’s nukes, and now this.

I disagree that heads will roll. The CIA, like the State Department, has been consistently running their own game and undercutting the Bush Administration at every turn. They’ve gotten away with it for seven years, they have one more to go. Easy.

We live in an age when we need intel cowboys with large brass ones between their legs. Jackasses like Carl Levin make recruiting and developing that kind of rare talent all but impossible. In the current environment, “company” field operatives might as well have a large florescent target painted on them.

Of course it’s a big story. With good news coming out of Iraq the dems need something else to cry foul over. I hear they’re accusing Bush of knowing already and covering it up.

It’s so sad that a majority of our Congress is more interested in political posturing rather than fighting terrorists or winning the war in Iraq.

If something illegal occurred find out what it was and punish those responsible. For Ted Kennedy to cry about cover up and illegal acts is the most hysterical thing I’ve heard yet.
